Another math problem

The order is for penicillin G 300,000 units IM. You have on hand a vial of powder labeled 1 million units. To reconstitute, inject 4.6 ml. sterile water to yield 5 ml. of solution. How many mL's will you administer?

Need help on setting this problem up. I know that the dose desired is 300,000 units and the on hand amount is 1 million units but the reconstitute part is confusing me. Is the answer 0.3 units?

I could wait until Monday to get help at school but I would really appreciate some help now so I can work out the rest of the problems like this.

Thanks!

the answer is 1.5ml. i use the ratio method, not sure how your school has shown you. you have to set the problem up with what you have available against what is desired (the order). the amount of ml's after reconstitution (5ml) is the amount you use in the problem:

1,000,000 units :5 ml (available) :: 300,000 units : x ml (desired)- you set the like units with units and ml with ml.

then you have to solve for "x". it's kinda hard explaining via typing and feel like i may be confusing you. but once you have the problem set up correctly it's very easy to solve.

your answer should be in mls not units. if you read the problem it tells you what your final measurment should be: "how many ml's will you administer?"

if your still confused you can pm me and i'll try to explain more to you.

you are looking for this to be set up by dimensional analysis. this is exactly like the other problem that i did for you (
https://allnurses.com/nursing-student-assistance/dimensional-analysis-problem-410181.html
). you must determine what your
dose desired
and
dose on hand
terms are and you are good to go. all the information that you need is given to you in the problem.

you will use this formula:
dose desired divided by the dose on hand multiplied by the amount that the dose on hand comes in to get the amount to use. . .

dose desired:
300,000 units

dose on hand:
1,000,000 units in 5 ml (this is after reconstitution--this is information given in the problem)

300,000 units
(dose desired)
/1,000,000
(dose on hand)
x 5 ml
(amount that the dose on hand comes in)
=
1.5 ml
(amount you will administer)

Thanks to both of you. I will eventually get this and I appreciate your help!
