Annual Skills Fair

Just a quick question/survey... How many people work in a facility that has an annual skills fair for check off return demonstrations, refresher how-to's, and annual mandated return demonstrations such as glucometer competency, etc? Just wondering because I feel as an LTACH nurse manager that they are necessary and really show you where your focus needs to be through out the year on educational needs for your staff. Also, some people may read something like a central line dressing change, etc, but may not exactly know how to do it correctly. It doesn't mean they are incompetent, just maybe haven't been shown the absolute correct way to do something, or it may be just a refresher for something they do not do as often.

Our educator is wanting to do away with skills fair because they believe it to be a waste of resources. What do you guys think?

I love having a skills fair. Everything is in one place and the presenters are usually the people w/ the most expertise on the skill so you can ask questions and know you are getting the correct answer.

I've worked in places where there was a skills' fair every year. It was great. Where I'm at now, getting the SDC to do almost anything is very difficult.
