Anesthesiology Assistants???

Specialties CRNA

What do you guys think about AAs???? I'm in North Carolina and as of now AAs cannot practice in this state. However, the MDA association of NC is having a bill introduced into our state legislature to allow AAs to practice in NC. NCANA is fighting the bill tooth and nail through lobbying. I'm interested to hear from any CRNAs/SRNAs that currently work with AAs? What do you think of their practice? Do you think they are as qualified as CRNAs?

Well of course we are! Why would you think otherwise?

second that motion

I third it. It got ugly last time, will get ugly again. I can already see people lining up, club in hand, to have another round at the dead horse.

Sorry, I didnt realize you guys had already had such a torrid controversary on the subject. It is certainly the buzz around NC right now.

The ASA leadership are very bright bunch. Make no mistake, they have a plan. The moral to this story is for everyone here - CRNA's, SRNA, RRNA's, and CRNA wannabe's (Sorry to leave you MD and AA looky loo's out), to get involved in the AANA and state Nurse Anesthetist organizations. Passion can can be a good thing. The ASA certainly knows this. For over 100 years Nurse Anesthetists have been there when others have not. Unfortunately, most of the public does not know who we are.

I think the last thread on this went on for like 50 pages, and it got ugly.

After alittle reflection though... The last thread seemed to center around AA's being miffed at the fact that CRNA's didn't want them on their turf. CRNA's did it first, and set the standard. Do you really think CRNA's are going to welcome another profession with open arms. How do you think the AMA would respond if a group of people came along and wanted to start practicing medicine without being an MD? If you want to practice medicine, go to med school. If you want to be an anesthetist, go to CRNA school.

Save the flames, nothing but love.
