Our hospital only has MDA's and they are all leaving very soon. We are actually down to 3 out of 6 now regulars. So the hospital has locum tenens they are called, which I equate to agency or a traveller. The one I have seen thusfar over the past 2 months frankly scare the heck out of me. They are NOT what I would call the "cream of the crop"(I am trying to be civil). They are also jumpy and defensive. A couple are downright unfit to practice. I understand that they are new and probably nervous being in a new place etc..., but what would you do if you really felt that one was a disaster waiting to happen? Nothing? I don't know. I am in the process as you know of securing another job(this being yet another big reason).Any of you been in similar situations?

I have seen it and have reported it to management................it is a very scary thing to be caught up in.............
Just depends on how willing management is in your facility to stand up to them. Mine always were.

Just had one of these accompany his fem-pop patient to SICU and actually said, "OK, I'm going home, now. She's all yours." He tossed 4 unlabeled syringes on the bed and left. My lady's pressure was 285/130, HR 135, fully awake, and still intubated. He charted "transferred to SICU in stable condition, VSS." Nice.
So what did you do?

It's funny, for all the complaints I've had about where I work, our anesthesiologists hasn't been a factor in those complaints. If anything, we have a couple who tend to be needy, a few whose judgements we tend to question, and frankly, one whom management loves 'cuz he 'helps' them make us run our a**es off. But for the most part, I work with a great group of MDAs, and I didn't realize it until I read this post. Just as there are surgeons who aren't 'the cream of the crop', the same applies to anesthesiologists.
