Ancient certificate trained FNP now wants MSN. Suggestions?

Published

I earned my FNP 25 years ago through a certificate program. Now, as I approach retirement, I am thinking I would like to do some nurse or CNA education or training but I need that Masters degree. There are shortened programs for MSNs who want to get a NP. Does anyone know of any shortened programs for a FNP who wants a masters? I haven't been able to find any as I search online. I don't think there are too many of us out there.

Or are there any other suggestions on how to accomplish this in under two years and under $20,000. Online would be preferable.

And to think I thought the $6,00 that I paid for the NP program was alot of money!

Thanks for your help.

Before you do anything make sure a masters is sufficient to teach and also consider the investment vs. return. In my area they now want a DNP to teach even in Community Colleges. I believe you can still teach clinicals with a bachelors however.

I think this is a special circumstance that you should contact the school you are looking at to attend. There may not be a specific program set up for you however perhaps just an MSN in education would interest you??? Contact a school and see if they can work with you. I imagine that is how diploma nurses first started the whole RN to BSN movement...

Good Luck
