ANCC and AANP

So, I have sent off my application for the ANCC exam and I'm awaiting my approval to schedule my exam. However, should I sign up for BOTH certifying bodies and just risk losing $120 for a cancellation fee from AANP? My husband says no, but the worry wart in me says I should.

I have used three different study guides and test questions to prepare. What do you guys think?

I was just surprised that the ANCC had me providing them with supportive documentation. I attended the University of Illinois, at the Urbana-Champaign campus. I have all of my clinical logs (we used Typhon computer tracking). My FNP program required over 700 clinical hours. I spent the all but my last clinical rotation in family practice. My last rotation was in cardiology. I had at least two standradized patients (simulated patients) each semester. Those were observed my two instructor and graded. My instructor came to each of my clinicals each semester. I had to write a Master's project and defend it for graduation. ( I wrote on Effective Mentoring Strategies for Nursing Students)

I am going to Chicago tomorrow for a 3 day review course with Margaret Fitzgerald. Maybe when I return Friday I will have a letter from ANCC. I am afraid to call them now....they will never give me my number. :bluecry1:

The problem is not the PA (or NP) its physicians that don't understand the need to collaborate and be available (especially for a new grad).

David Carpenter, PA-C

I know that the OB/GYN I accepted a position with is requiring me "precept" with him for 6 months with 1000 hours of clinical hours to include rounding for patients on the floor and clinic time. Several of my former classmates think this is too restrictive, but I personally like having that collaboration straight out of school. I'm quite happy with the requirement to shadow with him and the two other doctors in his practice.

Who would complain about shadowing with the physician for a certain amount of time. I think it sounds like a great idea. I am looking for somehting comparable in my new position, collaborative and professional practice with focus on the patient.

This is off subject, but there is a way to check to see if you can schedule your ANCC exam prior to receiving your letter in the mail. Go to www.prometric.com/ancc and choose "Schedule an exam". you will be asked to enter your ANCC ID code and the first four letters of your last name. Your ANCC ID number is the number ANCC sent you in your notification letter you received notifying you that your application is in process. I scheduled my exam one week prior to receiving my letter. hope this helps.

I just wanted to let you know that I was in a very similar boat. I also had to send extra documents and jump through several hoops to verify my FNP track. Thank goodness I kept all of my clinical logs from my rotations. I have several classmates that didn't.

I graduated early May 2008 and I finally received my authorization to test around the 18th of August. It took 3 1/2 months to receive the authorization.

We were told to keep a copy of our Typhon log forever, just in case!

What happened to your classmates who didn't keep a copy of their logs? OMG! You professors should have told the students to keep that log!

I'm not sure because they didn't get audited. My husband thinks I'm a pack rat, but I have all of my graduate program materials in two large rubbermaids in our storage building. I threw out most of my undergraduate notes just a few weeks ago and I graduated in 2001. I would rather have it than not have it...that's my motto. I just pray they don't get audited.

This is crazy. Im in a pediatric NP program and our professors find us preceptors we are not aloud to contact anyone or find our own perceptors. I had no idea this kind of stuff is going on. Its cheating the students.
