Anatomy is pretty darn hard.

This is my first time in Anatomy. I think it's interesting but I would say I'm struggling (getting F+/ D-). It kinda blows there's no extra day or two for my teacher to spend the whole class day reviewing. I would really love that. Did I study for the exams? Yeah, in fact I thought I would do well on my last test. Everytime I am confident, i do bad...it's weird! When my teacher wrote out the number of students students who recieved A, B, C, D, F, I was one of the two students who got an F.:banghead: But I am not dropping the class yet (hopefully I wont). I still have 2 more chances before the drop day. I have an exam this Thurs on muscles (gahhh freakin latin terms. btw real pictures face muscle gross me out. I wish they didnt so I would dare opening the book) and 5 essays for Political Science to write that are due on Friday:crying2: then it's SPRING BREAK!!!!!!:yeah:

Wish me luck:bowingpur

You do need a good grade in A&P to be considered for a program. Try studying it as if you have to teach it to a class. If you are able to explain it to someone else, you know it yourself. Many students study well in a group, others really do better on their own. Some students took photos of the lab models and studied those from home. As you advance in your schooling, you'll be expected to pull on the physiology from this class, so it's really important to understand these areas well. Maybe retaking with a different instructor would make a difference? Good luck to you. :redbeathe

Just wanted update my situation:

I took the test today. The test was divided into two exams: Lab and Lecture.

Last night and this morning I studied diligently on the muscle structures; understanding the origins and the translation of the terms. So today I think I did OK for LAB but Im not getting my hopes high because I dont want bad karma.

As for lecture, I dont think I did as well because I studied so much on the muscles I didnt have time to look at lecture notes! But who knows? I hope I get good karma for studying hard despite little studying on cell muscles!

When I first enrolled in my school I met with the head of the nursing department to map out a plan. I told her I was planning on taking 16 credits the first semester and she thought this was a little ambitious considering I had been out of school for 20 years. She told me if I was struggling AT ALL to withdraw from the ones I was struggling in that she would RATHER see a W than a failing grade when she reviewed for acceptance.

As it turned out it was a non issue for me (thank God!) and so I do not know how it would have effected my acceptance into the program, but I thought I would let you know what I had heard in case it might help you.

Why not go speak to a counselor and see how YOUR school views things like a W or a retake. (If you already did this I'm sorry, I read the rest of the thread yesterday and I don't remember you mentioning this!)

On the flip side, I have a friend in my A&P lecture that failed it last semester and is retaking it and she just got an acceptance letter into the program so long as she passes a&p this go round so it is possible...

Double check on that.

A "W" in no way negatively affects your GPA or transcript.

I also have never seen a single school in my life remove all evidence that you have enrolled in a class before.

So if you got a D and then retook the class and got an A...the D would not be calculated in your GPA, the A would as a replacement, but on your trascript the GRADE that you received for that semester? It is a part of your permanent record.

I have a question. I got very sick in January and had to drop my Bio chem course. Because I was in the hospital, they did approve my drop and refunded me the entire amount of my tuition. I do show a W on my transcripts, and I'm scheduled to re-take the course this fall. So when I apply... what will they think of my W? Do you think I will need to explain that I had a medical excuse for the drop? Or will they even care and just see the W? TIA

ETA: I've never withdrawn before, so this is new to me. Thanks again.

I think it depends on each program...Maybe if it came down to it for the last spot between a student with a "w" on their transcripts and one without a "w" they might select the one without a "w" IF the selection committe has discretion.

Around here, all the programs clearly spell out how they select their students and none of them mention anything about withdrawing or dropping classes having any affect. most of the schools used a points system and in the description of how you earn points nothing is mentioned about dropped classes...with a points system if you have one tenth of a point higher than then next applicant you will get in and they won't....there is no discretion.

When I applied to dental hygiene schools one of the university schools had a screwy system for admissions and it was kind of "secretive" and they didn't clearly spell out HOW they selected students. They said they gave priority consideration to those students who had the highest GPA, who took the most credits each term, who didn't drop classes and who took most of their classes from a university (i.e. not a community college). Well...I had a 3.85, took 15-18 credits each term and NEVER dropped a class...but I took all my credits from a community college.... I didn't get in. OH well...didn't hurt my feelings too bad as the school I went to was WONDERFUL!!!! Its the same school I'm hoping to get accepted into for nursing school.

Things can work out...sometimes not getting your first choice is a blessing in disguise. I still think that if it comes down between getting a D or F and a W definitely go for the W....I might even drop the class instead of getting a C....but that is just me.
