Anatomy/physiology

Published

Hi

I am thinking about going to nursing school. Years ago when I was in College, my college separated Anatomy and Physiology. Instead of Anatomy/Physiology I and II it was Anatomy in Fall and Physiology in Spring. I only took anatomy. Is there any school in CT that groups it this way so that I would not have to take both? Thanks in advance.

I know the community colleges have an "expiration date" on the science classes...I believe it is 5 years. While I can't speak for every program in the state, I would imagine most follow the same kind of guidelines since A&P if your foundation for nursing.

Good day, Rinchoo:

Since the anatomy and physiology go hand in hand, it is common to see them combined into one class broken into AP1 and AP2. Since AP is foundational to nursing, it is probably in your best interest to go the standard route of taking these classes at an accredited institution that doesn't break them apart.

Thank you.

If your Anatomy was years ago, as you say, you will likely have to take it again anyway. Nursing programs want it to be top of mind for you when you start, therefore they usually want to see it taken within the last 5 years.

I've only seen time limits (5 years) for Chemistry and Genetics. Not saying that some schools don't want A&P to be more recent, but I haven't seen it in the requirements.

OP, I can honestly say that pretty much all of nursing school builds on what you learn in A&P. Unless you rocked it years ago, and remember most of it, my advice is to take both semesters again, just for your own educational benefit. Nursing school is hard enough without having to remediate stuff from A&P. You want a really strong foundation.

Yes, I don't have to take it again, (at least one semester) but I will, I like the subject matter anyway.

Every school I looked into had an 'expiration' date for Sciences. All were 5 years.
