anatomy class question

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

hey guys, my problem is anatomy and physiology class. it is just brutal! i am freaking out and trying to find the best way to cope and study, and any sugggestions will be very appreciated. so in our class we have 4 lab exams and 4 lecture exams total for the semester, they occur on the same day one right after the other. so in the first lecture exam we will be tested on 11 chapters, multiple choice. the lab exam consists of the - skulll, muscles of the face, neck, chest, back, shoulder, upper limbs, abdomen, pelvis, lower limbs, upper and lower extremity bones and markings, long bone structure, histology, integument, thorax, hyoid, vertebral column, body cavities, serious membranes, and abdominopelvic regions. the teacher said that during the test we will have 50 models set up and each one of them will have 2 marks on them that we have to identify. for each model we will have multiple choice answers given to us. so this is the part that worries me, because the closest that i came to this assingment was labeling model drawings from memmory. this is much more challenging for me, for example labeling an unmarked beige skull. the problem really is remembering all of the above models, and being able to tell what is being pointed to. i don`t have such a great photographic memory to keep alll of these models in my head and not get them confused or forget them. also i am terrified of not passing the 1st test, because not passing just one of the 2 puts me close to failing. sorry that i am rambling on, but i really am freaking out. any and all tips on how to learn the models would be greatly appreciated! by the way our lab is self taught, and we get 3 hours a week in it.

Read this thread & go down to #6. The OP gave some really great advice: https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/p-help-my-334360.html

That would freak me out too, but u can do it. You are lucky in a way. We didn't have multiple choice, we had to memorize everything, we had to know the spelling and everything. I did flashcards, read my notes, and sometimes read the book. I don't like biology but I passed 1 & 2 with B's. That was my A's, I worked very very hard.

marisha20,

where are you taking those classes? sounds like my anatomy and physio class too! I took them last year, fall 2011.

I live in Louisiana and I'm taking them at William Carey University.

I mean I took them already.

I know how you feel. Anatomy requires a lot of memorization. It takes time and lots of repetition. What helped in anatomy was study group. We would get together once or twice a week and just go over the models in the lab. For example, let's say that we were studying bones. We would get the skull (or a limb) and name every bone, line, and cavities... Then we would play a game where we had to name each bone (as well lines, cavities, sutures...) correctly. If the person naming the bone missed more than 3 names, she had to do it all over again till she had it all correctly. Then it will be someone else's turn to do the same and so on.. The inverse could also apply. Let's say that I called where is the occipital bone? He had to point where it was... This way you are listening and repeating multiple times and memorizing it. The secret is making it fun and don't over stress yourself. Give some time for your brain to soak in all the information.

There are some websites that are helpful also. Try to google anatomy study aids/help.

Good luck in your class! You can do this!!

Hi there, I know. The feeling, but you can do it! You will see. Juust takenotes nd pay attention to what your instructor put the greatest emphasis on...nd on ny topics that you need more information on you can always find more info online. You can also get help on quizlett.com and superflashcards.com...........as for the lab practical, can find great models on youtube. ..

And just study the models in your book also. I hope this helspps, good luck to you!

That is normal for any anatomy class. Try taking both A&P 1 and 2 over two different. For the muscles literally pull out every piece and study. You have to come to lab after your lab is over or before to get a good grade. See if your instructor has a number list of all the muscles. My instructors did and it was a life saver. I would go over it three or four times when I was there. If I did not know something I would have my instructor point them out for me.

A&P is a LOT of information, but if you dedicate the time to studying, studying, and restudying models you can do it! I bought some flash cards that took me through AP1 and 2. They had whole systems, then individual parts of systems labeled on one side with the answers on the other. You can also make your own flash cards. Take pictures of your models and slides and print them onto index cards. Several of my classmates did that, and it was helpful. For me, flash cards and spending time in the AP lab looking at models was what worked. Pair up with people and quiz each other. Don't leave lab early. Make use of your time. You will become resourceful and find ways of remembering things when it comes time to study. Take a breath...you can do it. :) Good luck!
