Anatomy or Chemistry First

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am organizing my schedule for the rest of the school year. So far I have 7 classes left (including labs) to apply for Nursing programs at MDC. I am not sure whether I should take chemistry during the summer (12-16 week term) or take Anatomy I during the summer then Anatomy II and them chemistry. I really want to finish a semester early if possible. Also I do have some difficulty in math so I'm not sure how it will affect my chemistry class or if it does at all. I would really appreciate a response. Thank you

Take Gen Chem first because you would be able to get the feel and understanding of how you would do in a hard science + lab. Then over the summer take A&P 1 the first summer session and then take A&P 2 the second summer session because it would be much easier for you if it's still fresh in your mind.

Chem is based on math, but that doesn't mean you'll do horrible when it comes time to take it because you will be learning not doing it by yourself.

I just noticed that I still have to take HSC0003 and MCB2010 also. Do you think I should take any of those classes with chemistry and anatomy?

If they are both Liberal Arts (writing and reading based) then you could either spilt the classes up and take one with Gen Chem or A&P 1, or take both of the classes with General Chem because it would be less tedious if your not worrying about which paper will be due to either class, reading/outlining 3 chapters, and trying to memorize the bone and cell structure in A&P 1.

So it will be like this:

Gen Chem; History; MCB (what is this)

I don't think they are liberal arts courses. They are Microbiology and Intro to Health Care.

You could definitely take Intro to Health Care with Gen Chem + lab. Those could be your fall classes. Then take Micro + lab as a spring class.

So I shouldn't take Micro with Anatomy?

Chemistry is very important background for A&P. You will need it to understand the sodium-potassium pump, cell depolarization, electrolyte balance, acid/base balance, how and why proteins, enzymes, hormones, etc. work the way they do. Take chemistry first. In fact, I recommend genchem AND O-chem before A&P. And yes, there is a lot of math in chemistry so make sure your college algebra skills are sharp.

You could, but it depends on how well you can handle it.

I'm taking MAC1105 this semester with two other classes. I made sure to take one class that day so I can use the rest of the day to study and weekends.

Take Chem first then Anatomy.

Your chem class, CHM 1033, is for health sciences, not Gen Chem. The math may be less intensive.

The math class you are taking now should be good enough for doing Gen Chem math.

do anatomy first then work on you math skills.

if u need a good math source pm me. i self taught myself pre-algebra to calculus watching math dvds
