An RN-BSN Moving to Lynnwood, WA

Hello all,

I am currently working in El Paso Texas. My lovely mother just passed away a week ago, and while I was in Oregon caring for her (I was a born and raised Oregonian until seven years ago when I move to Texas), my husband got a job offer for Lynwood, WA Fire Department! I was so excited to be moving back, yet traumatized by my mothers illness. I now find comfort that I will be a few hours away from my beautiful sisters and all 7 aunts and uncles! My mother was pleading with me to move back to the Northwest to be with my sisters and this is a huge blessing to me and my family!

With that said....

First of all how do I get licensure information from Washington- there are so many webpages I have no idea how to navigate them!

Second, what hospital around that area is good? Which brings me to where to live and how to commute, after those 12-14 hour shifts I dont want to drive too much.

Basically I am starting from scratch and we need to move in less than a month! I have no idea where to begin.

I have been an RN-BSN for 2.5 years, working on a very busy med/surg floor (mostly surgical patients we get medical overflows) and I love it!

I also am looking for a possible sign on bonus, to help with moving costs and possible student loan help. Current wages in El Paso, TX have been between starting $22.00.

If you can help me with anything it would be so appreciated!

I'm not too sure about license information, but I know Steven's Hospital (http://www.stevenshealthcare.org) has a good reputation. That's in Lynnwood/Edmonds area. Snohomish County has a pretty good bus system too, so I know a few nurses park and ride from the Lynnwood Transit Center by taking a University bus to the UW Medical Center (http://www.uwmedicine.org), which is excellent...although I may be biased because I work there. ;) I mentioned before in another thread that many of the traveling nurses like it there. The route is usually direct in the mornings and it's about a 25 minute commute with good traffic.

I grew up in Lynnwood, so I love that area. It is really a nice place to live.

Thanks j450n! I feel more at ease with moving up there, I cannot wait to see some beauty, out here in the desert it has its own for sure, but I am ready for a change of pace.

One more question :)

Do you know then of a good place/apartment area I should stay?

Thanks so much for your reply! and the links!!

Washington needs an AIDS course and I think there's some links there on how to get it online.

I live near Lynnwood and I like it here, it's not really too far from Seattle if you want to apply to Harborview, Swedish, Virginia Mason, UW. There's always lots of commute alternative. You can also try out Providence Everett--that's away from traffic flow. :)

I work at Stevens Hospital and I LOVE IT. I have been there for about 4 years. I live in Edmonds. A lot of people live in Lynnwood and it is a short commute for them. I am the charge nurse on 3-11 at Stevens on 3-11 on 5 west. We have 34 beds and do medical and orthopedics. 8 west is also good, chemo and general surgery. Come by and we will give you a tour. Diane

Wow, thank you both so much!

MsLeylaBar- I am going to print up that application right away. I was searching everywhere and it became a mess searching all around exactly for this! All of the stress of moving is crazy!

Diane- Thank you so much for your kind invite- really I might just contact you for a tour. I did reasearch on that hospital and it is similar to the one I work at now; maybe 100 beds less, but it seems great!

I second this! I don't know too much about apartments, but definitely look in the surrounding areas mentioned by MsLeylaBar. I was going to post a link to apartmentratings.com as well, but she beat me to it. :wink2:

Hello all again-

I needed to resurrect this thread, as it will be a few more weeks until my big move.

I was looking into Stevens hospital, and looking to live at Keeler Creek apartments for the time being. Any ideas on apartments around that hospital?

The ones I lived at before I rented had the cops there almost weekly, so I am looking for a place where the cops maybe show up once a month lol lol...:chuckle:chuckle
