American Medical Careers in Flint, MI

Published

Hello everyone! I'm new to the website so please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong spot.

I live around Flint, MI and want to attend a LPN program. As you all know the waiting lists are outrageous. I've read about American Medical Careers on their website and from other questions posted here about it. It's a one year, accredited program that costs about 20,000 apparently but there is no waiting list and I hear they accept 30 students a year. Basically, I'm just wondering if anyone has any information on the program and if anyone themselves did the program... if they got a good paying job and passed their NCLEX. I know other questions related to this were asked but the ones I could find aren't too current so I'm looking for updated information.

Thank you!!

I went there. I Passed the NCLEX on my first try, and got a job making over $20/hr whithin one week of passing. Hope this helps.

I live in MI as well and at one point was considering this school...but the price is ridiculous. In addition to the $20,000 for the actual LPN program you need to get CNA certification as well before starting and that can add up.

If you absolutely want to do the LPN thing, there is a program in Saginaw that runs about $13,000. Its called Latoyas.

But personally, I suggest you look for nursing programs outside of MI. I applied to an ADN and BSN program at different schools in Ohio and was accepted to both. And on top of that neither of the programs are going to cost me anything close to $20,000. The ADN program is going to cost me around $12,000 and the BSN program around $17,000 and this is only because I dont qualify for grants because I already have a bachelors degree.

I really suggest looking outside of MI though...

Hello all nursing students currently searching for a nursing program. Just a little FYI about this school. STAY AWAY!! My friend and I applied for this school and are well qualified students w/ 4.0 GPA, both currently working @ local hospitals in S.E. Michigan with experience in patient care. We both applied in April of 2010 for the Fall 2010-2011 LPN Program. All we had to do is pay in August and just wait for program to begin in Sept. 10'. We both kept calling and emailing for the school to sent us each a formal letter of acceptance into the program. We were told over and over again by Ashley Paige they would have the Info. to us soon. Well, August rolls around, still no letters after many repeated calls/emails. Finally, after missing enrollment schedules to sign up for other classes at other school we attend they tell us they've decided to email and to postpone program until Jan. 3rd. 2011 b/c of Federal Funding accredidation (FASFA $$ could be used if they got approved). Neither of us cared b/c we both were paying cash for program. After missing out on classes @ local community college b/c of this we get an email 2-3 weeks later stating that they got there Federal Funding Approval, but decided to not do the program anymore. Not only did they GLADLY TAKE MY MONEY, BUT DIDN'T REFUND MY MONEY AFTER DECIDING TO CANCEL THE PROGRAM-DUE TO THERE OWN DECISION, NOT BY MY FAULT AND MESSED UP OUR FALL 2010 ENROLLMENT for classes @ community college. They continued to sent emails to other nursing students we go to school w/ and not inform them of the program being cancelled! I would advise you to STAY AWAY from AMCC and advise others to so so also. Very unprofessional and just plan out WRONG! They don't, nor do they care how they effect peoples lives, SHAME ON AMCC!

Specializes in Oncology.

i don't know about the school you mention.

i recently got accepted into an lpn program at occ.

the whole program costs me $5000 as an international student; however, if you are a in-state resident (oakland county), you will pay only 2,000 total which you decide it by 3 (there are 3 semesters.) all of the information you can find on the school nursing department or schedule an appointment with a nursing counselor at any campus. they are very helpful, especially you go to southfield, or highland lakes.

you need only 5 pre-reqs to complete with other candidates which are a&p 1, a&p 2, nutrition, psychology, and english composition 1. if you get the overall gpa more than 3.6xx, you should be fine. i got in with 3.698... and of course, no waitlist!

Seems like way too much money to me. My ADN cost only $4,000 at the local community college.
