American Academy of Med-Surg Nurses

Just wondering if anyone is a member of this organization? I am looking into becoming a member. I like their professional stance on M/S nursing and as a M/S nurse, this is very important to me. I am also very pleased to see that they offer the certification program. I plan on taking the exam in October. Has anyone else taken the certification through AAMSN?

I am proud to be a member of AMSN. I took the certification exam last year during the anual convention in Reno and passed. Yes it was hard, but you can do it. I took the review class they offered and studied the core curriculum . I also picked up a Med-Surg review book at a local nursing school book store. I enjoy the anual conventions and the quarterly magazines. This year's convention is in Chicago September 8-12.

Thank you so much for your reply. How long did you take to study for the test and was there any one area that you wished you had studied a little more? I am anxious about testing, but have a lot of experience and know that I could do it .... kind of reminds me of the NCLEX and that was the worst test I had ever taken.

I am planning on sending in my membership fee for the association to become a member. Wanted to go to the convention, but will not be able to this year. Perhaps next year. I plan on taking the certification exam in October in North Carolina.

Thanks again for the info.

We took a two day review class before the convention then studied about two hours every night for four nights. They give you a percentage of the various subjects when you register for the test. There was more surgery than I thought there would be, Which was hard for me because of working in a small Community Hospital, even though I worked surgery for ten years. We are growing, and have more surgeons now so it would be a little easier. It was sort of like the paper and pencil State Boards, if you've been around long enough to remember that. Never took NCLEX but I imagine they are sort of like the NLNs we took years ago. Study hard and GOOD LUCK, I will say a prayer for you. Encourage your co-workers to get certified also.
