Hey everyone! I am a pediatric nurse over in South Carolina and worked with a nurse who said that Australia is a great place to live and work and Ill admit it seems like a total new world to me all the way over there!! I am thinking about doing a travel job Down Under! Iw as looking at travel agencies but alot of them are for about four year assignments and that is a little too long for me and recommendations? WHat is it like to work over there? Do americans nurses seem to assimilate way into the Australian health system? I am really curious please let me know any tips you have!!! Thanks!!!

I find the work is relatively similar, although there are of course some differences. We have a lot of UK nurses here, not so many US nurses that I have known in Australia. I am Aussie working in the US in ICU setting, it's not that different. I'm not sure how different the floor setting would be.
If you're pediatric, try Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne - they have a website. Great, world class hospital. You can be directly hired by hospitals for a shorter time. I know several UK nurses who came for 1-2 years and were sponsored directly by my hospital.

Considering the US population I've come across surprisingly few US nurses here - they all seem to be fine, though apparently the transition to drawing up meds (instead of getting them premixed from pharmacy) takes a bit of getting used to. I have nothing to compare it to so can't give you any useful information about comparisons, but I like it here :) Good luck
