Anyone administer AmBisome at home?

thanks!

linda

ambisome is a newer, improved version of amphotericin b:

a potent antifungal antibiotic for those w/life-threatening fungal infections.

personally, i'd be reluctant to give it at home, esp if this is pt's first time getting it.

lots of reactions s/p infusion.

some you can see in as little as 30 min, others don't manifest til hrs later.

i'm thinking the md isn't too concerned about adverse events, since this pt is hospice?

we premedicate w/apap and diphenhydramine...

sometimes solumedrol.

infuse over a couple of hours, separate line.

many warm thoughts for your pt....

Spoke this afternoon with oncologist, he has stopped the Ambisome...we changed to an oral antifungal. It's sooooo hard for families who have gone from agressive treatment to hospice.

thank you for your input.
