Ambien, Is It Really Safe For Pregnancy?

We don't tend to use it in pregnant women....we use Vistaril instead. I have never heard of any story/anecdote or study that linked fetal death to the use of Ambien, at any stage of pregnancy.

has anyone out there seen what they believe is a neonate with adverse reactions from mom taking ambien? please answer....we have had a babe with it in meconium and have had a fetal death and mom is convinced it is from taking ambien?

studies on human reproduction and development using ambien have not been done. ambien will cause sedation in the unborn baby when mom uses it in the latter weeks of pregnancy.

We use Ambien routinely for overnight obs. pts and for cervidil inductions. Most of these pts are continuous EFM and we have never had a poor outcome... in fact most of these babies never even have a noticable decrease in variability. However, I am surprised in the number of pts that it doesn't work with....

SIL had a long-ish early labor and all was fine until she was given ambien and told to go home.

When she came back a couple of hours later, water was broke and baby had meconium. Doc ordered stat section.

SIL totally blames it on the ambien and is still kicking herself (6 mos later) for taking it when it didnt feel right to her to do so.
