Am I too old to change career?

Nurses General Nursing

Hello,

I recently got a LOW letter at work (an accountant) and i have tried to get another job for two months now, but all in vain. I have a bachelor degree and MBA. I am thinking about going for accelerated program in Nursing and I am 41. I have kids to take care of and wife is not working. I have some savings that might not be enough to sustain them if i should go full time. Please i need an advise if I am too old to for it or what do you think I should do? I am totally confused in this situation and do not want to hurt my family - not able to pay the bills or stuffs being thrown out of the house for non- payment. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

OP - here's some more info which may help your decision. Schooling: PT is 3 years; OT, OTA (OT Assistant) and PTA (PT Assistant) are 2 years. I have personal experience with PT and right now the job market is pretty good. My niece is doing OTA, and she says that she has had offers already - she graduates in May 2017! In fact, my office (a branch of a large hospital system in NC) is looking to hire 1 PT, 1 PTA, 1 OT and 1 OTA right now, along with 4 nurses. Don't do respiratory therapy or ultrasound, those fields seem to be saturated. I found the forums on indeed.com to be useful too. Some states may have generous subsidies for folks going into the medical field; NC has a "forgivable loan" of $14K/yr, which is basically a grant with easy-to-fulfill strings attached.

Do keep in mind though that all medical fields will require pre-req classes such as Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, etc. It took me one extra year to get all of those done since my undergrad was in Engineering. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for this this info. Yes I do know that all medical fields will require pre-req classes. I have Biology and Physiology, Chem, etc- already. I believe i have to take Anatomy 1& 2 and sit for PEAS exam/test too if i decide to go back to school. Thanks again
