Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello! I'm 18 years old about to start my first year in college in less than 1 month! I've dreamt of being a nurse since I was a little girl and it's all that's been on my mind lately! I'm just very concerned because I know that there is a lot to learn and I've become slightly discouraged due to the fact that I was a B student in high school.. I didnt have this beautiful 4.0 gpa all throughout high school.. But I know that if I put my mind to this and I work harder than ever I can do it. Someone please tell me that not every nurse was at the top of the class in high school? Can an average student become a nurse? I'm determined. Were any of you an average student? What did you do to step up and have your dream job?

As long as you pass nursing school and the NCLEX, it doesn't really matter if you're an average student or not. However, if you're interested in going to grad school, grades will matter.

High school GPA means nothing. If you want to get that 4.0 GPA in your pre-reqs to get accepted to a nursing program, concentrate on it and work for it. Don't let anything else get in your way or distract you.

High school won't matter once you get into school. B students are fine. Many, many people are B students. I would say MOST folks don't get straight A's that you come across!

With that being said, your college GPA will matter quite a bit if you decide to pursue grad school (also, additionally you obviously have to stay in good standing in your BSN/ADN program).

Most people can study MOST subject matter and do well. Some of us just have to study more than others, or in a different way. I, for one, have a very short attention span so I have figured out that watching video lectures and reading out loud are more effective study methods than reading or writing things over and over again. Find what works for you, now is a good time before you start a program.

You will run into people who seem like they hardly have to study, people who have to study a lot, and a lot of people in between. Most people have the mental capacity to do very great things.

Don't sweat over being a B student.
