Am I Getting a Bad Deal?!?!?

I was offered $24 an hour w/ my agency. Now that it comes down to the contract, my recruiter is telling me that on my contract it will show $18.17 an hour but I will be getting a meal allowance of $30 a day and that will add up to my $24 an hour. This doesnt sound right. Does this mean if I get overtime it is only double time of $18.17? That stinks!!!! I feel I have been lied to. The recruiter says I have already verbally agreed and I can't back out....but I havent signed anything, and I verbally agreed to $24 an hour NOT $18.17. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Please help! I am w/ RN NETWORk.

Jammin,

NC pays little for travel as far as hrly wage...usually 23-26 max that I've seen. I live in NC and travelled locally for 13 weeks. I got 24/hr base then money for housing, etc...but the base rate was 24. Hope that helps...and that was first shift in an emerg. dept.

Edit: This was with American Mobile (added to give more info)

Sweetie, most agencies pay at least 35/hr...don't do it! Sounds like a scam to me. Nursing Innovations out of Memphis has some contracts in the southeast.

Please don't sell anyone short here. I worked in NC two years ago for 6 months. $35 staff, $36 charge. I was charge every day I worked but one.

Don't accept/settle for low rates anywhere. You are a REGISTERED NURSE. There is a REGISTERED NURSE shortage in this country. YOU call the shots. Please stand up for yourself. No one else is gonna. If you don't settle they will have to either pay you more or someone else more.

I never tell my agency "I have to be ________" I ask them what do you have in the general area. And I always ask what's the pay upfront. Get it over with. That's my bottom line. I can always work someplace that pays well for 13 weeks. Then take two weeks off and go where I need/want to be and enjoy myself work free.

JMHO. Sorry if it sounded like a rant.

Nephro,

Was that 35/36 all together? Or your base rate without housing, etc? If it was base MAN I GOT IT IN THE BOOTY BAD! lol

And Nephro,

Question...I have an agency now telling me that if I work in CA then I could get 20/hr (which I think is absolutely ridiculous) but with the housing and whatnot it would equal total to 40-48/hr. Does that still sound good? Or should I be getting 30+/hr and THEN all the housing? I am looking to work in May-August so I would need to figure out something by March. Thanks for any advice from anyone!

Always look at what you actually bring home at the end of every week or two weeks, whatever your pay period is. Some companies pay tax free money in the hourly rate as well.. Always find out what you are making taxed and tax free.. The hourly rate is low..

Thank you! We figured take home would be about 4866/month. So I think that is pretty good.

You should be making $35/hr. Then you should get travel pay, apartment, utlities etc. And most of CALI pays OT after 8 and DT after 12 hours.
