Why hello there, fellow students!
You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!
Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! " and "Competition!
" (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)
Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.
I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.
Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!
....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?
GOOD LUCK!
Stats:
Expected final science GPA: 3.67
TEAS score: n/a
When you are in the nursing program hospital a/hospital b is to give you a selection to choose from...you remain at one clinical site until whatever you studying is over ie. med surg is half a semester (you will remain at lets say UM for the first half of the semester) and maternal is the other half of the semester (the next half of the semester you may be at Miami Children)
@jessy First just take a deep breath! You will be fine. Ithink we are all pllanning ahead and looking at schedules because we need to do something to keep busy. But you don't have to worry too much about that, I'm sure they will explain everything during orientation. You can start looking at the website which lists all the requirements we need to complete by orientation. The link was posted on this thread a few posts back. You can also wait to get your acceptance letter and the same link will most likely be there. So don't worry too much, there will be time :)
I'm going to the financial aid office this afternoon. I also need to submit a "Standards of Academic Appeal" because of my excess credits. I'll let you guys know if I hear of any way to receive financial aid before doing the IEP with the advisor.
@dreita - How were you able to receive aid if you are not in the program yet?

I feel like I'm so not prepared for this after reading through the posts. I haven't thought about CPR or clinicals or schedules or anything. Where does one start? I applied for FT and PT generic and I'm thinking if I have the option, I will have to go with PT because we just bought a new house and I can't really afford to quit working. You guys are keeping me sane through all of this!
Can someone give me a cliff notes version of what I should be doing to prepare?
