Hi,This is for all of you that are having doubts about second career in nursing.I made the big gamble, after living in Reno for thirty years, raising two great kids and a divorce,I relocated to San Diego for 15 month LVN program and I'm almost there, eight weeks to go.I loved every minute of it.Definite obstacles, but mainly with living in San Diego.Cost of living beyond CRAZY.My dilema, knew from the start San Diego, not for me too many people.I want to start my new career, at 50 ,in smaller great place, just not sure where.I plan on completing step up RN program wherever I land.Weather is not an issue, just looking for small ,friendly, community.Anyone out there ,that loves where they are at and if there is opportunities for LVN-LPN please drop a line!Great day!!Cindy

Congratulations on getting through school, almost! That is great. There seems to be plenty of need for LPNS here in S. California and Bay area. But just like San diego the cost of living is out of this world.

Hey. I just love your attitude about life. You are not looking at negatives but at what you can do to make the life you want for yourself and your family. I know for sure that the Dallas/Fort worth area is a nice place to live. the cost of living is awesome (no contest compared to San Diego). There are so many hospitals and nursing homes in that one area you should never be out of a job. There are also tons of schools for when you want to advance your career. The pay is not too shabby either. LTC pay about $18 for new grads but hospitals are less. Plus...TX is a compact state so if get your Lic through there, you can use it in many other states. AND...there's no income tax in TX. Think about it. Good luck in last weeks of school and also on your boards.

Dallas or El Paso, Tx. I almost moved to Dallas and have lived in El Paso. I speak only English and it was not a problem finding a job in El Paso. Many nice areas with beautiful homes for low 100s and below. I prefer the West side off Redd Rd. Numerous nursing homes and hospitals. Arizona seems to really need nurses, but the cost-of-living is definately higher!

Wow, well first of all congrat on completion (I am sure of the LVN program). Second, I would suggest College of the Redwoods and or Humboldt State University. The area surronding these two schools which are within 20 minutes driving of each other is mostly county and farmlland. it sets on the coast. Definately worth checking out.
