Almost ready for formal application

Published

The only thing left before I can apply to the RN program at my school is the TEAS test. I take it 9-7. Meep! I've been studying for over a month now and feel pretty well prepared. I'm coming in under time on the practice tests I've taken with good scores.

My references are submitted and all high school pre-req's are done. My college doesn't seem to require volunteer work but I have options lined up if needed.

I'm starting classes on the 3rd, taking A&P1, statistics, ethical issues. Also taking human growth and development online. After this semester, I'll have one more semester of non-nursing courses to take. I'm a little worried that if I don't get accepted I'm going to be left spinning my wheels while I re-apply.

I'm not sure what the applicant pool/acceptance ratio looks like for my particular school. I'm sure it's competitive though. And I'm not sure what happens if I don't get accepted this round. Anyone else in a similar situation?

Specializes in Hospice.

I was in that situation.... twice! Alternate list once, denied once, then finally accepted on my third try. I just stayed enrolled and kept plugging away at pre reqs and co reqs. As a matter of fact, I took all of them, so that all I have left now will be two courses for each semester in nursing school. The core NUR courses. That should make things alot easier on me. Don't give up if it's what you want. Attach reference letters whether the school requires them or not, a cover letter where you can high light briefly some of your volunteer work. If you consider your application as if you are applying for a job it can only bode well for you. Good luck!

Yes! That's the last thing I have to do as well! (With the exception of mailing my Resume or CV in.)

I am going the BSN route and am allowed to apply while enrolled in my last 4 classes which are Chemistry + Lab (Inorganic, Organic & biochem survey course), Writing for professionals, Group Communication/Leadership & Statistics.

By doing this I'm hoping to get a provisional admittance which at the particular school I'm applying to means you can only accept thier offer for enrollment if you make B's or above in the remaining classes.

I take my TEAS Aug 23rd. I only have a week to "study" since I was enrolled in an A&P II course until my final last week. I took a few practice tests for TEAS and it seems I only really have to bone up on my Chemistry (which I haven't taken in an formal setting since 2005/6).

For me I'm trying to embrace positive thinking and putting vibes into the universe that I'll get in. Competition at this school is always fierce, but they do review each applicant holistically. So no cut throat GPA competitions at least!

Worst case scenario, if I don't get in, I'll take a CNA class in the fall or get more volunteering under my belt while I re-apply.

Good luck to you, keep us posted on your progress, I know I'll be looking forward to it!

I nailed my TEAS test and formally submitted my application. Now I'm just waiting. There is an early submission deadline of Dec 15 and the final deadline of Feb 1. I may hear something as early as December if I get early acceptance. If not the rest of the letters go out Feb 15. Such a long time to wait!

I've got one semester left of non-nursing courses. If I don't get accepted for Fall, I'll take one class per semester and work as an LNA until I get in. I'm not really sure what classes I would take if I have to go that route. I guess some lit and math classes since I enjoy those.
