Most agencies want a minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience. As a traveler you are expected to be independent and proficient in your specialty area. Hospitals that need travel nurses don't want to spend any money on training so they will provide a minimal amount of unit orientation and then you are on your own. There are some hospitals that are so short staffed that their units are almost completely full of travelers! Talk about a scary experience!
I would focus on gaining as much experience and knowledge as possible in a staff position for 2 years before you consider traveling. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

I am also done in five weeks and very excited so i know exactly how you feel! When i recently went to a career fair through my school i talked to americanmobile traveling agency and they said a minimal of one year possibly 2. It sounded like an awesome experience if you are into traveling and sounds like they pay for almost if not everything! Good luck to you!:nuke:
Thank you for answering my question. Do traveling nurses need to be ACLS qualified or does that just help
good luck in your career. I already have a job waiting in a very small hospital. I am looking forward to work there, traveling is just a dream at this time.

what about if you have a dog? can you take it along?
I have a friend who is a traveler and she takes her dog with her. But it could be the agency just lets her.
