After an 8 year break from nursing I am now almost finished with a refresher course (it was not required to reinstate my license but I wanted the organized review) . I used to work for an agency (long term and hospice care) . I was just offered a job with two agencies (between the two I should be able to work 24 to 32 hours which is my goal) ..they both know I do not have any recent experience but liked that I had previous agency experience.
As badly as I want to return to nursing, I'm really nervous about not knowing enough to do a good job. The nurse refresher course definitely helped. But I still feel VERY lacking in knowledge.. I review every night and have taken 30 CEU's in the last few months. I remember feeling this same way right after graduation so I suppose it involves in getting back out there and doing it.
I feel fortunate to have two job offers because I hear from many new grads that it takes them almost a year to find a hospital job. I just want to know enough to be a good nurse and do an excellent job..but how do you know that you know enough?:redpinkhe

You will be fine. It will come back to you very quickly. I feel lacking in knowledge at times. I think that we all do. It's the overconfident people who scare me. Goodluck!

You did it once you can do it again. Its just pre working jitters and once you have a successful day on the floor it will go away! Just be patient with yourself.

I need a refresher course too but do remember the nerves I had after graduation back in 1990. I remember how quickly I settled into my first job, Labor and Delivery. Soon it was very comfortable. It was so much easier than nursing school. Jump back in there and you will do fine.
Thank you! I think if I could shadow someone even for a few hours it would all come back. I never worked in med/surg..don't really want to, oh how I'd love a job in l and d..we'll see what happens
thanks for the support
