Good news...I got into nursing school! Bad news...they have all white uniforms. Forgive me for asking, but what are your tips for not looking ridiculous, not showing undergarments, and, uh...not sharing too much at certain times of the month, ladies? Thank you!! :imbar
My school requires white scrubs too so I have white bras but my tops are of a heavy fabric than my pants so they don't show through. As for the pants I bought white leggings & wear them under my pants at all times as well. As for periods I always keep a complete change of clothes with me & my lab jacket is long enough to cover the back side. Otherwise congrats on getting into nursing school & enjoy!
We also wear white and uniformadvantage.com is wear I buy most of my scrubs. The buttersoft white scrub pants are awesome and you can't see through them. The tops are another story. Definetely where a tank top with a nude colored bra. I once had an aid that I work with come out of the room looking like a deer in the headlights. She looked at me and said "WHAT DO I DO?" Looked down and saw I nice sized brown stain on her beautiful white pants. Some peroxide and shampoo did the trick until she was able to get home and wash them. Moral: carry a spare uniform in the car!
Well, I feel a little lucky now. I thought our uniforms were hideous, but I see otherwise now. We have white tunic collared tops, w/ navy scrub pants. At least the pants are navy. And, doesn't that make sense!!!
If you are not on a birth control, I would do so. This lightens your period and it is also a good way to keep check of when you should start, as it was stated above. Nuva Ring for me, was a three day period w/ very light flow. We are talking about someone who was such a heavy bleeder, I would miss school and work at times b/c I was in the bathroom every half hour, and some instances every 5-10 minutes. I no longer worry of this b/c I am done having children and took a more stable route, (IUD) and I now have basically no period, Thank You Jesus! LOL- Back to my point after my TMI, before my blessings, I always wore a super plus tampon w/ a thin pad w/ wings. In my experiences, the thicker doesn't mean it will stop a flood. Also pay attention to the panties you are wearing. You should be able to find something in a laungerie department that is suitable for both white pants, and your monthly guest. Us poor women. Can you imagine a man trying to figure this all out??? My husband would have duct taped himself.
I have already been through two semesters of nursing school with al white uniforms, and not even scubs, uniform thick white button down tops, uck. I wear white tank tops under the tops, because the V neck on all the tops we have to wear is too deep for my little self, then I wear shorts under my pants, little cotton ones. luckily the tops are long enough to cover my bottom to not show my pants, but even if I wear red shorts under my Cherokee white pants you still can't tell. I use a lil bleach or each time I wash, and a whitening detergent, they have fared pretty well so far.
Good luck, the patients really like the white for some reason.
After reading your posts I'm feeling very fortunate right now. I am starting school Monday and I'm worried about clinicals and can I do this, etc. Reading your posts makes my doubts seem trivial. My school requirements are to wear Navy and press it, tie back hair, and polish my white shoes nightly. I'm feeling very lucky.
I have to wonder who picked out these white uniforms. Makes me think maybe it was a man!
I am a man and my school has the same cheap see through scrubs (have to buy from 2 local shops both sell cheap cherokee brand see through scrubs) so I am trying to find ways to hide my "tighty whities"! just because a man doesn't have a period doesnt mean his underwear stay white as the driven snow either if you catch my drift. Its been five years may be time for some new undies... hehe!

My uniform is all white, and so far so good. I wear white underneath, because that is what I have, but I agree that flesh-colored is most "invisible"... Besides, my top comes to my hips and I wear a white tee underneath.
I use starch when I press - helps repel stains, have only bleached once and that was just for brightening before I put it all up for the summer break.
As far as Aunt Flo - just go to the bathroom more often then you might otherwise...
