Hi everyone
Just wondered if any of you out there watches All Saints on channel 7. Would it be a good way to get an insight into the life of a nurse.
Would like to hear your views, also was a shame that Terri left the show
With Thanks Marion C from Ireland

hello marion,
you must remember, "all saints" is a fictional drama designed for television. while they do have a professional nurse advising on the show, they have to present it for maximum artistic impact. it started out quite well and somewhat authentic, originally. even had the endorsement and support of the australian nursing federation. of late though, the show has declined and has lost it's authenticity, i believe. imho.
there is a better, real, show on australian tv depecting the work nurses here do. it's called "nurse tv" and is screened on either sbs or the community channel. i can't recall which just now. someone here might know.

Hi Marion
I've tried to watch it a couple of times (nothing on the other channels) but usually switch it off it disgust. The characters are stereotyped, the situations are over dramatised and cliched, the roles of the nurses are unrealistic to the extreme.
As Grace points out, its written this way for art's sake and, I would add, not for the promotion of nursing as a profession.
If you are interested in nursing as a career, then go for it.
TV shows aren't the best way of gauging if your experience will be a positive one, otherwise there'd be no police (The Bill, The Shield, Blue Heelers), no teachers (Boston Public, Teachers), etc.
Oh yeah, I live in Ramsay St, Summer Bay, next door to a guy named Toadfish Rebecchi...
