Algonquin College Anyone

I think it's still open because the University of Ottawa BSN is still accepting applications (?), it's a collaborative program and the application is through OUAC, not the college board. BTW, I've been to Algonquin College (just for a couple of visits though) and liked the Campus even more than OttawaU's. Regarding the nursing program, I have an acquaintance taking it there; it's basically the same in both locations.

I'd go to Ottawa U before Algonquin. Why do a collab when you can get it from the source?

UO has more money = more/better resources. Gorgeous campus in downtown Ottawa - very short walk to the Rideau Centre and the market. UO gets first pick over clinical placements then Algonquin & other schools in the area get the leftovers.

I think the Algonquin students do have to go to the UO campus for some classes (clear across the city - annoying!)

Sarah, that explains why people taking the program at OttawaU feel as if they were superior to those studying the same program through Algonquin (even if they insist the final degrees will say the same). However, finding accomodation in West Ottawa is easier and less expensive than it`s in the Downtown area. A good place to try looking for someone going to OttawaU without a place in Ottawa is the East, the transportation by bus is not bad and the rent is better than in Ottawa West.

BTW, they are still accepting applications.

I didn't mean to imply that people from UO will be better nurses so I'm sorry if my post came off that way. I didn't go to either school, but I did go to a collaboration program and if I could do it over I'd go straight to the source. I'm kicking myself for not going UO since it's close to me and it is one of the schools that I was accepted to.

hello everyone!, i know this is a late ppost but, does anyone know about the admissions process at u of ottawa....im from BC and have been trying to find out what they look at specifically (very vague on their site) .....doees anyone know what the average admission gpa is for the school in past years????????? any insight would be much appreciated.........!!!!

The program is quite competitive. I suggest you apply early, especially if you want to take the program at the University. After all the spots are filled, they may offer you one of the collaborative programs: Algonquin (Ottawa West Campus) and the last one to be filled is Algonquin (Pembroke Campus). I've never been to Pembroke, but I think is about 2 hours away from Ottawa.

Hello! I am in the collaborative program, Algonquin and UOttawa and I love it. So glad I chose the Algonquin one. I like the people on campus better, and it has a less stuck up feeling. It is a bit annoying, because for the first 2 years a lot of your classes are downtown, but as of 3rd year, you are soley at Algonquin. It isn`t that big of a deal either because it is just one 10 minute bus ride from Algonquin to downtown. Also, friends in the just UOttawa program say they wish that they had done the algonquin one because we have some of the nicest labs around. Oh, and if you do the Algonquin one you get a diploma and a degree, not just a degree. I hope that helps! :)

I've applied at both U of O and the Algonquin collaborative program (through U of O). I've been told they are exactly the same program. The Algonquin campus is very nice, but so is U of O's. Just different in terms of location and "feel". I heard they usually close the program at U of O by April.
