Alabama state boards

Nursing Students Online Learning

Hi, I am brand new here. I am hoping to get info from any nurse that has sat for state boards in Alabama after going through the Excelsior or RUE distance education program. I have my LPN and want to start on RN. Going to traditional college will not be an option for me right now. I am concerned about running into problems with clinical time when I apply for boards in Alabama if I go this route. I would love to hear from an Alabama nurse who has info on this. Thank you!

Go to the Alabama BON website and look for specifics on this. Information is continuously changing, best bet is to go straight to the source.

Suzanne,

The problem here is that the AL BON website contains very vague (at best) info on it's policy regarding EC grads.

There is info about a paramedic who went through EC and was denied licensure as an RN several years ago.

However, I have personally worked with two EC grad RN's who were originally licensed in AL.

But both were LPN's first and both were licensed before any of the controversy in CA started so who knows what their current policy is at this time.

I called them back in 1998 or 99 because there was a possibility of me living there. At that time they told me that EC was accepted for licensure without restrictions but I'm not clear as to whether they meant that because I was already an LPN or not.

They state that they review applicants on a case by case basis, but that doesn't help anyone determine if going through EC is right for them because they never know if AL will accept it.

I hope that the OP gives them a call and posts the response from them because I'm curious.
