From the letter I received it said that the test would take fifteen minutes. So i am guessing that there will be some general questions asking what you know. This will allow them to find your weak link more quickly.
yeah... i was told by the director that it's just another way to make entrance decisions on 'border line applicants.'
they've just started using it a couple of years ago... and it's supposed to be pretty challenging. we'll see..... my head is already spinning!!
good luck to everyone this weekend!!

KrinklesRN,
I am preparing for October interviews at U of Akron and was wondering if you could share some insight as to the process (since I see you were accepted). Should I really buy the books and prepare like Mr. Barton requested? Was the test and interview as difficult and intense as I've seen talked about on this board?

Read, read, read, read, read. Then when you are done, read some more. Read the teal ICU book. Read some pharm books. Know what classes of drugs are by an obscure name. If it ends in -OL, you know it's probably Beta. Know receptors. Know mechs of action. If you say you work in a trauma unit, you will get trauma questions. They will take you down any path you want. Just tell them what you know, and they'll see just how much you really know. Be cool. Look calm. I think it's 90% personality. Mr. Barton is a nice guy. I think sometimes he just wants to see if you'll sweat alittle.
Do your observation's and if you are not enrolled in classes at Akron start to enroll for the summer or fall. Akron likes you to have a good portion of those classes done before you start. :uhoh21:
Thanks for the input. Looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me.
What classes are you referring to? The program doesn't start until June so are there pre-req's?
They are not pre reqs. The program director wants you to get most of the masters components out of the way or started before the interview. Classes like advanced patho and some of the resaerch classes. I know they also wanted to me to take a graduate level stats class. I took the stats class but I did not want to invest that much money in to a program that I was not gauranteed to get in to. I did not know if any of the material would transfer either. Decisions decisions. But you are right, there are a lot of roadblocks that lie ahead and much work to be done. Good luck!
