Airforce Reserves, but not as a Nurse

Hello, Ive come here hoping for some advice regarding my little predicament.

I'm a US licensed nurse, born and raised in the US and have completed most of my education here except for the last two years of college which I finished in the RP. Ive always wanted to join the military but I've also come to terms, after all the research and meeting w recruiters, I wont be able to join as a commissioned officer and my best bet would be an enlistee, and even w that I wont be able to practice nursing, so an enlistee w the Airforce Reserves seems to be where I'm looking at right now. My question is, how should i start preparing, should i be afraid it's always the boot camp that's been discouraging me from joining before now, how is it during training and you a girl w "girl problems"...am i making a mistake?

Going back to school is not an option for me since I want the military to pay for it, im not in a position to be paying off school and waiting til then. The military recruiter here suggest i go back to get an "american" BSN before going in...Any advice would be nice, tnx

I am a nurse in the AF Reserves. I have a friend in a similar place as you. He got his nursing degree from a school in the Philippines. He is now finishing a masters degree in health management so he can become an officer in AF as in the Medical Service Corps (MSC). I went to boot camp 10 years ago, so it has changed a little bit since then. The length of training is now 8 weeks and is more physical. My first advice would be to start getting more physically active. Your recruiter should provide the military fitness standards that are expected at the completion of basic training. You don't want to be "that guy" that can't meet the PT standards and gets tossed out after the first week. Hope that helps a little bit.

I agree with the recruiter. You would do best for yourself to go back for an American BSN. Good luck.
