Hi everyone,
I just recently started the process to apply to be an Air Force nurse. I'm trying to complete my packet for the January 2013 (Feb 19-Board, Mar 08-Decision). Anyone else currently starting or in the process? Any advice with gathering my information?
Any current Air Force Nurses that could give me insight about their experience, especially regarding their first assignment?
My husband is about to separate from the Army and we are used to that way of thinking and doing things (i.e. lots of misleading information, less family oriented, less options regarding career). My recruiter had mentioned that everyone goes into a general clinical nurse slot, but is given the opportunity to specialize into a department of their choice after one year. My initial response was "Yeah... riiighhhttt." I don't actually believe that I would be given such a choice so soon, but I'm not sure if that is only because of our experience with the Army. Can anyone enlighten me??
Thanks!!
hey JillyRN,
I just signed my application too. I had my interview today. It went really well. Time to wait it out again. Good luck to you and everyone else thats waiting too. my recruiter said that the boards meet Feb. 19, and the estimated release date is march 8th. Is that what you were told?
hey zacheus81,
Ok, I just learned that you cant use names. LOL. they bleeped it out when I put my recruiters name on the last message I sent you. my recruiter has been awesome. He is so nice. I hope you have been having a good experience too. have you signed your application yet for the feb/march boards? talk to you soon.
Welcome Carlily!
Haha, yes, I'd say your quite ambitious but I'm sure it can be done. I didn't decide until late October and thought it would be rushed but I had plenty of time. Can I ask how the process has been for going from ANG to AF Nurse Corps? Will you be able to continue with your TIS? I was told there are still 40 spots left this FY for general clinical nurses but I didn't get the number for CC. I'm hoping that means the odds are still in our favor.
Good luck with everything, keep us posted :)
zacheus81,
hey just a heads up. I tried to private message you. if it went through, look by the sign out button and the picture of the envelope should be red if it went through. it took me some time to get used to where everything is and how to do things on this site. LOL. let me know if you dont get it. I am not sure if you can type out regular emails on this part of the site, i think it has to be private message only. but let me know either way. talk to you soon.
hey Carlily,
welcome to our thread!!!!!! thats cool that your in the ANG. how is that going for you? what has made you want to go active duty-all the way? I am going in for a med-surg position. thanks (JillyRN) for saying what the number of slots were for med/surg. my recruiter didnt know when I asked him so it was nice to hear it from you. LOL. So carlily, do you think that your application will be done and sent in on time? my recruiter told me that the packets had to be mailed out by Jan 15th. did anyone else hear the same thing? Talk to you all soon.
JillyRN
