Air Force March 2014 COT

Published

This is a forum for sharing information related to commissioned officer training (COT) for the United States Air Force. It starts March 3, 2014 at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. I found out today that I was accepted. I will be stationed at joint base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.

I took my oath last week. Now just getting things ready for the move.

Has anyone got their orders yet? And if so how long did it take after your oath?

Taking my oath tomorrow....has anyone gotten orders?

Candi2188,

I'm an FNP with a year experience so far. Six years icu/duke RN experience and am 29. I plan to apply for any Fnp spot next October, working on packet this summer with hopes for Cot jan 2015. Currently about to have baby 2 and don't mind the long term plan. Any tips or rec letters to help pass selection? My husband is a disabled USAF vet. There's not a lot of info from Nps who have been through it. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

And also congratulations at acceptance and your accomplishments!

Do you know how many slots there are for FNPs? There were only two slots for PNPs for FY2014, but I was the only one who applied in October. I would make sure you have your application ready for the first selection board.

If you can get more than three strong letters of recommendations that would be helpful. I had a really great recruiter who provided me with excellent guidance.

I really enjoyed my phone interview with a PNP and my face-to-face interview with the chief nurse at moody.

When is your baby due?

I have a two year old and that has been my biggest struggle, thinking about leaving him for a month for COT.

Let me know if I can help with any other questions and GOOD LUCK!

No orders yet. I wasn't really told to expect them until a month out. The January folks haven't even got their orders yet.

Oh I hope it is not a month out!! My recruiter seems to think it will only take about 14 days to get orders. He said he is hoping all his people have orders before christmas

I'll let you know if I hear anything different, but I've been commissioned twice that long and haven't got orders yet.

My baby is due first of feb. The recruiter has given me June as possible PFT timeline and to try for the first selection board in oct. I'll have about four months to get back in shape to pass pfts for the packet. Who did they recommend for references? I too don't want to leave my little ones, but I remember dad coming home when I was smaller and it was such a big celebration that I focused on that instead. Also there's skype, etc. I just hope we are done breast feeding by COT, wouldn't want to be doing that there and singling myself out:)

Also what did they count for your rank? I've been a nurse for six years and will have 1.5 Fnp experience when evaluated at the selection boards.

Never been an NP, so someone correct me if I'm wrong here. It should be 2 years of credit for the MSN plus about half your relevant work experience time. I don't know if being a nurse is relevant to being an NP; it ought to be one would think. You're looking at either 1st Lt (O2) or Capt (O3) depending on what they count.
