Ahpra application refusal

World Registration

Published

Hi everyone,

I´m a registered nurse from Germany with 4 years experience. Went to the whole registration process with ahpra and waited 7 months. Today I received an email, that they are considering to refuse my application. The reason for that is, that they do not consider my training as equivalent with the Australian one. That is really a joke. Has someone ever been in this situation before? How did you write your appeal letter?

i also suggest you all read the post on ahpra website about assessing IQNM.

i think its a positive thing. they say, even if your original registration was at aqf 5, but

managed to get more over time, it should be ok.. anyhow, thats how i interpreted it.

@lisbeth22 are you still using the site would really like to contact you

After some months absence from the forum an update from me. Have sent a new application to AHPRA with boxes ticked for EN as well as RN. This time, I have not send it to AHPRA SA again. Last try to get a registration here... Will see how it goes. Cheers

Hi everyone

I am a UK registered nurse registered from 1997 and we all are also having problems with APHRA there is at least 300 of us in Australia at the moment that can't get registered. Mine was submitted in April and if I did not harass them almost daily I would not even have heard fro them!! They don't return phone calls and very few emails and never have any advise on what to do where to go with no help what so ever!!

I am sure you all feel the same, like somebody has taken away a huge part of my life and identity I feel utterly devastated

@ herbie53 - have you heard anything from APHRA? Will they refuse your application or make you do the bridging program? I hope my documents were of some help or have given you some inspiration. Good luck and let's catch up one day when I'm finally in Australia xx

Hi @lisbeth no nothing the phones were switched off for 2 days this week so emailed my case worker after 5 emails got an automated out of office for 2 weeks directing you to another person who was also out of office!!! I would laugh if it was not my whole lives career!! Xx

@herbie53 - honestly have no words. I know that APHRA is busy but I believe the way they handle clients could improve significantly. Its a very unprofessional way of handling clients. I have so many ideas to help them sort some of this out - maybe I should present them with the ideas ;)

Keep us updated xx

Hi all!!

I am Patricia, an Spain trained RN suffering form AHPRA as well as most of you around here. I submitted my application in mid February...I still haven't got a resolution. This is being frustrating and tiring. Professionally is damaging me not to say economically and emotionally.

I have read the whole thread and I tell you all struggling with AHPRA, I certainly feel your pain.

After more than half a year being patient, I run out of it. I have had too many "we cannot give you a timeframe" as an answer, so I stopped being nice in my emails and I let them know that they are doing a terrible job. Today, I finally reached my case officer (after many unanswered emails) who replied me with a letter from a manager. It does not clarify me much, as it still does not give me a timeframe for my case to be resolved, however, it gives me some guidance about where it is stuck. At the end of the letter she said:

"The new model requires that the education institution where you studied be externally accredited during the period your program of study was undertaken (criterion 2) and that your program of study is accredited by the relevant nursing and/or midwifery regulatory body (criterion 3).

We are in the process of determining whether the national accreditation of education institutions and professional accreditation of nursing and midwifery programs of study in Spain meet the National Board’s requirements for criteria 2 and 3.

The National Board is aware that Spain’s accreditation processes may differ from those described in criteria 2 and 3 and, as a matter of priority, is conducting additional research to establish whether Spain still meets the requirements. As soon as these matters have been resolved, your registration officer will notify you of the outcome and how it may be relevant to your application. "

In May, they asked me for the documents that were necessary for meeting these criteria. They were attached in less than one month using the templates they provided.

I am more than frustrated, I am desperate.

I have to say that I did a Bachelor Degree in Nursing in Spain, I have five years of experience and my program of studies meets the number of hours of hospital practices that they ask it for.

I need to hear that nurses in my situation are getting their registration or, at least, the resolution letter sending them to the bridging program (such a money maker...).

Also, I would like congrat [COLOR=#003366]lisbeth22 for your possitive outcome!! It is great. I was wondering if you could send me the comparison you presented. I think it could bring some brightness to me for understunding how likely am I to get my registration.

Sorry for this endless comment, I needed to shout out how angry I am with AHPRA.

@patriti - I don't mind sending you my comparison. Can you send me a private message with your email? And thank you. I struggled for so long and by the sound of it was lucky that I was under the old regulations. I sent in my paperwork/documentation in April 2013 and after an appeal was finally given a pre-approval in December 2013.

I think the new regulations have made things much worse for APHRA and I can only wonder if they ended up making their own assessors even more stressed. It seems it wasn't all that thought through. However, it's just my own speculations.

Yes lisbeth22 , I read that you passed an odyssey with them as well... I think you are one of the few people that have had a positive resolution of a registration refusal review. You did great!! If you don't mind sending me these papers you presented to [email protected] , I would be really grateful. I cannot send you the address privately as I am not allow to send private message in the forum yet.

I am aware that standards changed in February and my case is being reviewed under the new standards , however, I keep checking the new ones from top to bottom and vice versa and I wonder how it is even possible that my application could be refused. However, I'm sure they'll find some excuse to finding me not eligible for registration.:(

Anyway, lets see. Although is hard for me to be positive, you never know until the end. The probles is that meanwhile I am working as a carer in a nursing home wasting my skills, my time, my money and my mental health...:nailbiting:
