Hi! This is my first time visiting the site. I am an Agency Nurse and have been doing local, Per Diem nursing since 2006. My background has been ER for the last 3 yrs and prior to that I have done Pediatrics and Transplant. My husband and I will be relocating to Kirksville, MO in July. Is there an Agency Nurse/Nurses out there that has worked in the area and/or surrounding areas (Kirksville, Columbia, or even Quncy, IL). If so, which are the better Agencies, Locations, Hospitals? How was the pay rates?
Thanks

Did a few stints in St. Louis when I was travelling a few years ago. Barnes-Jewish is HUGE, and they do everything there, and some things no one else is doing anywhere else! St. Marys is a wonderful hospital to work for: they really take care of their people there. Stay away from Forrest Park Hosp. They don't have a very good reputation (unfortunately, I was there before I found out) and don't take very good care of Agency, Travelers etc. Wouldn't recommend it . Pay is pretty good anywhere in Missouri. Plus, there are boatloads of things to do there! Enjoy!

Marklena,
Are you interested in doing some home health type work for about 10 days within 20 minutes of Kirksville? Would be 1st weekk in Aug. Basically 'checking' on an elderly person in their home while their family is on vacation. If you are not, can you recommend another person/agency who might be. We don't know where to look for this type of service. Please let me know.

the pay rate ,in my opinion, is a lot lower than the East Coast, also, the shift differential is a whole lot lower, (we are talking $4, $5, $6 dollar difference) I was in shock when I moved to STL from Virginia...the cost of living is higher here also...I had to work agency to make up the difference
