How old were you when you got into the nursing program? I feel like I'm taking forever. I will be 22 next month and I'll I'm still not in the program. I took the HESI exam in December, got into UT, but ran out of time and didn't submit the reading portion. The deadline for the program was Jan 5th and because of the holidays the earliest I could take the reading portion (since it didn't go through) was Jan 6th. So my backup plan is to apply to the ADN program at the community college but for that I also have to take the A&P portion which I'm studying for now. If I don't get into the ADN program I will have to reapply at UT for the spring semester. I just feel like my life is on hold right now and I feel so old. I wasn't full time while taking my basics because of my ADD. I hate blaming it on that but it honestly did ruin me academically. I take adderall now and I feel like everything makes more sense and wish I had gone to a psychiatrist earlier but what's done is done. So at what age did you start nursing school? BTW I like with my parents and work at a restaurant so maybe that's also why I feel frustrated and powerless over this situation.
I am 34 and in school. My class is an evening program and ages range from 18 to 60. 60! you're never too old.
Also, for what it's worth, my husband also struggled with undiagnosed ADD his whole life. He dropped out of college when we met when we were 19. A few years ago he had a full evaluation (including an IQ test which put him at above average... he's SO smart, just couldn't focus) and got his meds and strategies. He went back to school 5 years ago and went from delivering car parts for a living to getting his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and doing a job he loves. He's also frustrated too that he got a "late start" because of his untreated diagnosis, but it is what it is. he's doing what he loves now!
I was in LVN school at 23/24 and was considered the baby. There was one girl in my class younger than me and she was 21. That was almost 5 years ago, I'm now almost 28 and I'm getting ready to earn my RN and BSN. I plan on going to CRNA school during my early 30s.
Speaking to age a little further, my mom was 39 when she earned her LVN, and 50 when she became an RN. She is now 60 and getting her BSN. My uncle became and RN, BSN at 30 and after ten years all the sudden decided he wanted to be an MD. He's now in med school at 42 and isn't the oldest one in there.
So...don't let let your age worry you. You are well ahead of the curve and even if you weren't, who cares?!? Live your dream!!!
