  1. I called her and she said it was okay but I don't know what to tell castlebranch. I just sent her an email, hopefully she doesn't take long to answer.
  2. Hey y'all. I'm late to the party. I got the flu shot on May 31st of this year and castle branch is telling me that I missed the deadline which was august-march. I really hope this won't be a problem
  3. Hey y'all. I guess I just want to vent. I finished my prerequisites at HCC in December and I missed the deadline for the UT nursing program because I didnt finish the reading portion of the HESI on time. I wasn't sure what I was doing with my life after that, was looking into different schools etc. So I didn't go to the orientation and I just pretty much waited to take the HESI again. Well fast forward to this month and I finally went to orientation because I submitted my application June 1st. I didnt know I had to take Patho, Pharm, and intro to nursing prior to beginning the program. I was taking Tech Writing in the spring but dropped it bc I didn't think I was gonna go to UT (YUGE MISTAKE). So now in the fall I will be taking Intro to nursing, Patho, medical terminology, and technical writing. I guess I will have to take pharmacology and a sophomore level lit course in the spring. I am a CNA and currently looking for a job so I'm hoping that if I land a job at a Hospital that is partnered with UT, that can increase my chances of getting into the program. Both my GPA's are decent and so are my HESI scores. I guess since I won't be able to start in the spring, I will be submitting my application in January for the online based program. To hopefully start next fall. I am 22 years old and I am a little (a lot) frustrated because I feel like it's taking forever to get into the program. I feel like doors are being closed in my face and that I keep making the wrong decisions. My parents are paying for my education and are pretty strict. So I get frustrated when they and other family members keep asking how long I have till I graduate. I am more than ready to start nursing school but it seems like nursing school isn't ready for me.
  4. Wow thank you so much for this. I will definitely keep this in mind.
  5. yes there is but they only admit a few students per semester. I will look into the accelerated program. Thank you.
  6. What about online classes? I know a friend who takes her classes online and goes to a center to do her tests and clinics on Saturdays only.
  7. Hi. I am 21 years old (22 on Tuesday) and finished my per-requisites for nursing school. I am applying to a local university in Houston and also to two ADN programs. I am planning on starting a cna program this month. However, I am having problems at home with my parents. They support me financially but I don't think I can take living here anymore. They are not bad people but my mom brings me down in anyway she can and has always neglected me. I don't want y'all to think that I'm the typical young adult who wants to be reckless and doesn't want to be told what to do. I have tried to make my relationship with my parents work but they are really controlling and all efforts are useless. My question is, has anyone worked full time time and lived on their own while going to nursing school part time? I am considering being a CNA while going to school. The Certified Nursing Assistant salary in Houston, TX is $30,544 with a range usually between $27,691-$33,969. I just want some advice. Should I suck it up and stay with my parents for possibly 3 more years (depending when I get into nursing school and which program), or try my best to move out? I know it will be hard. I'm willing to work hard; all with the hope of saving my relationship with my parents but I want y'all to be honest and tell me if this sounds crazy. Share your stories.
  8. If you do not have an associates or bachelor's degree in something else yet then there will be no bridge and yes you have to complete your basics first. However, you can also become an ADN which is 2 years full time (a combination of general courses such as A&P, microbiology, and nursing coures) become an RN with an ADN and then do a bridge (1 year) to get your BSN degree. So 3 years full time as opposed to 4 which can be a big difference. But this is only if you really don't want to take History and all those other classes.
  9. This is the best answer I've received all night. You understood what I meant so thank you! I will ask them if there is anything in my X-RAY that concerns them or if they need clarification as to where I got my treatment. Thank you!
  10. Thank you so much for that :) We all have different journeys and it's not always ideal but it will happen.
  11. AA which is 2 years and nursing school is 2 years. So total of 4 years to earn a BSN . That's the traditional way. There's also a bridge if you already have some sort of degree and you dont have to do all the basics or anything. Check with your counselor to see what's available.
  12. 17 wow! She will be 20-or 20 1/2 fresh out of nursing school. So jealous! And so would you say that not everyone in nursing finishes in the standard 4 years? 2 years of basics and 2 years of nursing fresh out of high school? I missed a semester and was part time while doing my basics.
  13. How old were you when you got into the nursing program? I feel like I'm taking forever. I will be 22 next month and I'll I'm still not in the program. I took the HESI exam in December, got into UT, but ran out of time and didn't submit the reading portion. The deadline for the program was Jan 5th and because of the holidays the earliest I could take the reading portion (since it didn't go through) was Jan 6th. So my backup plan is to apply to the ADN program at the community college but for that I also have to take the A&P portion which I'm studying for now. If I don't get into the ADN program I will have to reapply at UT for the spring semester. I just feel like my life is on hold right now and I feel so old. I wasn't full time while taking my basics because of my ADD. I hate blaming it on that but it honestly did ruin me academically. I take adderall now and I feel like everything makes more sense and wish I had gone to a psychiatrist earlier but what's done is done. So at what age did you start nursing school? BTW I like with my parents and work at a restaurant so maybe that's also why I feel frustrated and powerless over this situation.
  14. I asked them why I needed treatment and they said because the skin test was positive. My X-RAY was clear but since I dont have the paperwork that states I was treated as a child they want to treat me. I was really young so I dont know what the treatment consisted of but this is what I know: Since I was born in a foreign country, I received the TB shot. When I arrived at the U.S they gave me a skin test, it tested positive so they gave me a 9 month treatment. But my mom lost that paperwork and the clinic where I got it doesnt have a record anymore. The reason why I'm so worried about the timing is because I wanted to start the CNA program on Monday.
  15. Yes I got the CXR and it was clear. But Doctor still wants to do treatment before giving me a letter saying I am clear. Should I get a second opinion?
