After stopping for balance finally CPNE bound

Published

Hey fellow nursing counterparts! I'm seeking all study resources. Do you know of any additional study resources used on top of Excelsior study material portal to tackle the dreaded beast (CPNE). I know of workshops but I want to know of anything that was helpful as a memory aide to compliment my study regimen as a supplement. Have to fully prepare there is no other way! Advice please from recent Excelsior graduated students, moderators or those in the same current status on how your preparing for success. I would like to hear about self home labs and how much time you put in with hands on and the time it took for you during this dreaded wait to execute skills and care plans. I don't want to hear about experience because this is a preparation on the Excelsior way. Thanks and best wishes to all future RNs!

Sorry for the typos in not entering ???? any help highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!! í ½í¸€

First i did a excelsior atudy guide read through making tabs for abything that seemed important. Then I started off studying care plans and mnemonics. I signed up for atl online workshop. With that I also got their study guide. The videos included a lot of careplan examples and their study guide had previously made mnemonics. I put the mnemonics on flash cards and whenever I was out i would practice them. At home I would watch careplan videos. Later I started practicing labs and full pcs. I spent 3 months in total studying but I would say study tIL you're comfortable and after that study some more. If possible I would have enjoyed more pcs practice.

Thanks Seity! Great pointers... I've initiated all you mentioned except tab my study guide. I will add this into my planning too. Thanks!

Sounds like you executed your clinical weekend!!! That's awesome. Don't want to go in depth of the actual exam it self due to our school policy but in regards to preparation and time, how long did it take you to get a testing date? I just submitted my app a couple weeks ago and I plan to prepare, prepare, prepare. Still trying to understand documentations but I think I'm on the right track until I master the unknown. I'm thinking I should prepare up to the date, soaking as much as possible. I'm a medic as well and I had to take a 2 year hiatus for other goal, work and life balance, but now back on to finalize. Are you practicing as an RN?

To add on to the previous, I guess my main concern or anxiety rather, is documenting correctly (charting) and choosing correct care plans. I know the current study guide has a few examples, but there is a new one without. I'm guessing I should consult with an advisor on this unknown. It seems that a high failure is on documentation, care planning and asepsis critical elements. Any tips on documentation prep? on top of flash cards for daily study?

I would recommend printing out the pcs form and become familiar with what goes where. There were a couple of fails for people missing paperwork. I can only speak for the current study guide. I'm not familiar with the new one.

I waited about 3 months to test. Being open to cancellations will drastically reduce wait time. Call constantly if you want to test earlier.

Although I am finish with the program I am still waiting for EC to finish processing my graduation and should recieve my diploma with next month's cycle.

Seity,

Congratulations on Graduating! Job well done

As for me: I will most likely be testing under the new study guide based on my readiness and required study. I want to ensure I'm prepared and know this stuff inside and out. Thankyou so much for sharing your journey, success, and helpful tips and additional resources. Keep climbing up the education ladder in healthcare and helping others with essential advice. #manyblessing!

I am printing out the required submission documentation for submitting my CPNE application. Maybe we could bounce idea's off each other?

Emtpbill, sure thing!!! Fill free to shoot me a PM or discussion post anytime. I'm gonna start checking updates once or twice a week here via all nurses as I begin to put pieces together over the next few months while waiting for a CPNE date. I find this resource valuable to chat with other student nurses on the same journey.

Hi,

My name is Andy, and I'm enrolled in Excelsior as well. I have completed all of my prereq's and nursing theory exams as well as the FCCA multidisciplinary team, but failed the FCCA head to toe by ONE question. Retaking now and just looking forward to being done. I have only been intimidated by the microbiology and now this FCCA head to toe. This is the first test I failed and I have immediately re-enrolled.

I saw you said CPNE bound, just wondering have you or anyone else failed any of the exams. Hoping I don't fit some statistic for lower success now. Either way I'm determined to succeed. Are you planning to buy one of the workshops, online or in person. I saw an add that charges 1999 for 5 days but has a 91% or more success rate for passing the CPNE.

I'm considering it. I mean its a lot of money but if I prep and then 2 weeks before my test dates go, I think It could be a big benefit.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your response. I want to encourage you by saying we all have set backs and it was probably for the better to strengthen your knowledge, so u can excel and execute the nclex. I would suggest preparing yourself from the study guide and utilizing a tool that works with your study requirements and memory aide/need. I am CPNE bound and it was a challenge. I want say I failed any exams are excel through each one, but what I will add is to encourage you to give your best ability and don't give up. We're both just that much closer.

Thanks. I am with you on the don't give up. I was kind of cocky slash dumb about when I took the test. I studied but took it after a very long night shift and my head wasn't in the game. I've come wayyyyyyyy too far to stop now. I'm already registered for the fcca this cycle and plan to crush it this time. I'm planning my next 8 weeks around it. Good luck with your cpne prep.

also, with your screen name being flight Med, have you done the CCP certification? It's being offered here in the spring via University of Maryland program. Is it worth the 3 weeks off, and how much time did you have to devote to it? That is all if you have that cert I mean
