lots of good advice here. what does the patient's health care provider have to say? if this dr. is not forthcoming with useful , helpful and accurate information, i would urge her to seek a 2nd (or even 3rd opinion) prior to allowing this person to perform surgery at all. she has the right to know all benefits and risks, as well as potential side-effects of such a major procedure. urge her to talk with her doctor today about all her concerns.

An ex-coworker of mine had a hysterectomy at age 19 after the birth of her third child from HPV-turned-cervical cancer. I overheard her saying that her privy parts had become more sensitive, but her lady parts was "nothin' more than a black hole." She said that post-op was painful and it was a shock to go through menopause so suddenly, but she got it back once she got her hormones. I didn't find out more b/c she severely disliked the fact that I'm Asian. I also had the displeasure of working with her when she didn't take her hormones. That was hell.

Well, I had to have a hysterectomy as well. I'm 34. I never imagined there would be any problems either. My legs started hurting a couple of days after surgery. My incision came open and the stitches kept popping up. The incision is still irritated and the whole area is inflamed and there is some sort of sensory neuropathy. I have to get nerve blocks every two weeks, I've been going to physical therapy, tens unit, and taking way too much medication. I really want them to take these vicryl stitches out. I think they are not dissovling properly. My point? It can go the other way also. There can be lasting consequences also. I had a very good surgeon. I did have an adominal incision because of endometriosis. Be wise!:p

BTW, have any of you heard of an allergic reaction to triclosan? it's the coating on the stitches. It's extremely irritating if the body break it down properly and the stitches do not dissolve. Thanks a bunch!
