After a C Section...

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hi, I'm just about to take my LPN entrance exam and hope to begin next Sept.

I have a little problem on another area though I was hoping someone could help me with. I just gave birth 4 months ago via c section. I have recently noticed that I have a "roll" near the top of my stomach and another at the bottom. I never had this before! It's not really fat, it just kind of hangs there. I think it's because maybe my muscles are weaker? I wore the surgical binder for about 3 days post op, but never after that.

Other than sit ups and a good diet (I've just been eating salads and chicken) does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get rid of, or at least reduce this?

Thank you!

I didn't realize when I was writing this it might count as "medical advice." I didn't mean it that way- I feel fine- I just wish I could get rid of this little buldge, and thought someone may have had the same experience.

Yeah, I'd like to hear some input to. I've got the same problem, only my section was 7 years ago.

if you have exercised and worked your abs (maybe a personal trainer's advice is necessary here), I can see no solution that does not involve possible tummy tucks, etc. I am not advising you get plastic surgery, but you may have to learn to live with this, if you have exhausted the exercise and proper diet options. I consider this a minor problem for myself, I am just working on being the healthiest I can and living w/ the looser tummy.

Good question ! I too have this "Fold" too...Its been over a year since my c-section, 16 months actually and it hasn't gone away. I am scheduled for another c-section on 3/29/06. So, I will have to live with the bulge.

IN all likihood, barring some really specialized personal training or surgery, unless you are lucky, you will have to learn to love your new post-csection body.

Well it's good to know other people have the same issue and it's not just MY body. I saw a pic off Britney Spears on TV the other day (I know, she probably got plastic surgery or intense personal training) and I was looking at the TV like my gosh, you can never tell she had a baby, a c section no less.

Britney Spears cannot be held as any sort of realistic standard, seriously!!!!! She has the money (as does the very muscular, sinewy Madonna) for a personal trainer, nanny, state-of-the-art workout equipment/home gym, chef and yes, plastic surgery, if need be. She is also only 23. Young bodies bounce back quickly. But i have learned, nature sees to it, we all "go South" just a bit as we get older. You can either make peace with that and strive for overall health and wellness, or obsess and get surgeries to correct it until your pocketbook or body can't take it anymore. Life is so very short. Enjoy your baby, enjoy the good things, let the little stuff go. Make peace with the way things are... change what you can, let the rest, well, rest......

The good news is (from personal experience I speak)----You CAN reduce that "roll" and its size----- but you can't make it go away unless you have lots of time and money on your hands to do it. Work hard to be healthy and strong, and let the rest take care of itself.

I didn't have a c-section but I had two pregnancies and that big blob of yucky fat that is all loose and rolls over. After my first pregnancy I lost all the weight, exercised and the blob seemed to diminish after about 6-8 months. It seems like it was more waiting on the skin to go back than toning the muscles. Then I got pregnant again and it's two months and counting and I am still waiting:chuckle I think its looks will improve somewhat with time. HTH!
