Affordable housing in the SF Bay Area

Published

Does such a thing even exist? I put out a Craigslist ad but everyone who responded is quoting monthly rent prices from $6000+ and weekly rent of $700-$900. And the corporate housing prices are just as outrageous, plus they want double the rent up front! Does anyone who did a contract in SF or the bay area have any leads for affordable housing? I did want to bring my family but if that's the difference between something affordable and something ridiculously expensive then I'll leave them at home.

I'm not a Bay Area expert, I live in the Capital region. But I'll tell you, a lot of people who work in SF can't afford to live there. I know a couple who earn $150k plus per year who live in Hayward and commute. Many people live in the Sac area and commute to the bay.

From what I understand, living in the Bay Area is quite expensive. Tiny, old houses in bad areas cost as much to rent as luxury apartments in my area.

I recommend checking out the areas in the bay located nearby that people have recommended on this thread.
