Affordable ABSN

Published

Hi,

I hope this is the right forum section. After searching this site and google, I wanted to ask about minimally expensive programs for ABSN, that have good reputations. I have found programs that are fairly inexpensive, but I don't know how they are viewed in the world of nursing. Could anyone name a few (out of state friendly appreciated) that have a decent reputation? Also, are there any known program scholarships or nursing scholarships I should look at? If not, I was hoping that I could aim for a program, where I can work as a CNA for awhile beforehand, so I don't need to take out a large loan for the program.

I don't think reputation should be overlooked. If a school has a bad reputation, it's most likely hell for the students. Personally, I would never go to a school with a bad rep. I don't know what state you are in, but I was considering Union University in TN prior to attending FSU. I don't know how their program is now, but back then it had a good rep and was affordable. Don't think the area is terribly expensive either. More importantly, ensure whatever school you choose is fully accredited. There are a lot of great ABSN programs out there in affordable areas.

Good points. Does anyone know if there is a site that rates nursing programs (besides the US News site)? For FSU, did you gather all your info. online or did you attend an info. session?

I did all of my research online. When researching I used AN and this site:

Search the Top Accelerated BSN Nursing Programs

Might also try to google "top rated ABSN" or "top rated nursing schools". That will give you a list of the top 10, 20, 50, etc.

I think info sessions are a waste of time. I'd rather research online and talk to actual students who went to these schools rather than have the school tell me what they think I want to hear.

Thanks. When did your program start sending out acceptances? I wonder how much time I have to work.

I found out in early April. The program start has changed since. You can find all the new information on their website. Some programs start in August (Fall) and others in January.

Thanks. I'm finding that there are a few programs, which might have an ok reputation, but are charging ~$100,000 for the entire program. I mean you'd spend a long time paying that back. Now the first thing I check when viewing any of those programs (besides is it accredited) is the tuition page. Many of the out of state programs are cheaper than those expensive schools.

NO WAY. I wouldn't pay more than 30k anywhere. I don't care if it's John Hopkins. The costs some of these schools have is beyond my comprehension. $$$$ hungry.

I know. It's crazy. For that reason, I think that state schools are probably the best option. There are some programs for ABSN that are around 45k, but that's as far as I go. And even those I'd be working like crazy until probably the week before classes. Are there any out of state students in the FSU program?

Yea we have a few. What state are you in? BTW, I was just sharing with you what FSU's program cost for in-state ABSN tuition for reference. I only went here cuz it's close to home and was somewhat affordable. Have you looked in to other schools with similar tuition where you are?

My state might have a few ABSN programs. I think most are BSN programs. That's why I'm also looking at private and states with low out of state tuition. Some of the BSN programs might let me do the program in two years, since I have degree all ready. I think state schools might be the cheapest, but they are also very competitive too.

I dont think info sessions are a waste of time. Those programs you listed are very expensive. Cheap ABSN: SUNY, CUNY (state schools. avoid private).
