I am preparing to graduate with my Associate in Nursing Degree. I am going to then be going directly into an RN to BSN program while I work full time at a local h ospital. My question is this...with one year experience as and RN (but not with a BSN) will I still be required to do the NTP or will my year of experience count? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I believe once you have your BSN and one year experience (regardless of RN or BSN), then you don't have to do NTP.

All your RN experience counts whether it is as an ADN or BSN, so no NTP for you. Also, your ADN experience will count towards rank!

While it is true that your ADN experience will count towards rank, as wtbcrna stated, it will only count for 6 months.

Unless things have changed RN experience will count for the same no matter what..... 1/2 credit for the 1st 6yrs and then 1:1 after that towards rank.

Thank you for the info. I figured that it would count as six months and that is fine. My main concern was that of NTP. Of course this is a question I will ask my recruiter when the time comes, but there is no sense in contacting them just yet.

it will count...goodluck!

That's what I meant...she'll get half credit for her one year, so 6 mos. Won't really be enough to effect rank. I guess it may help get 1LT a little quicker, but it won't get 1LT upon commission.

I am currently working on my 7th year between RN and NP, so I should get 1:1 time now?

I thought that is what you might have meant after I posted it (no offense meant...sometimes my posts can come off as abrasive it is not meant that way). Anyways, it is much better to be 6+mo closer to a raise then to get nothing at all. Also, it is best to commission as soon as possible instead of waiting. You should get 1:1 credit as soon as you commission even though you haven't even gone to COT yet, if that makes since.

Don't forget it is going to take about 6-12mo on average after you contact your recruiter until you actually enter the AF.

Yes, after your 6yrs as an RN you should get 1:1 credit towards rank. 7yrs of RN experience would be worth 4yrs towards rank or in other words you should have enough credit to enter as a Captain (O-3).

Thanks wtbcrna! My recruiter has said he thinks I will come in as O-3 and being prior enlisted should be O-3E. I hope so anyway. Good luck with the rest of school.
