Hey AF nurses, I have a question: I am up for the April boards. My recruiter says there are ER positions open. However, I read on here that the AF is no longer recruiting nurses. I need to know if this is true ASAP. If I have zero shot at getting in, I need to let my husband know so he does not lose the ability to join the Navy.
I know recruiters are supposed to give you the prettiest of pictures, but I am to the point I need someone who lives in the real world to let me know what is really going on. So, I am turning to the AF nurses. Don't let me down, just give it to me straight. I'd still love to come in, but if its not meant to be right now, I can always reapply after I get my MSN.

The AF in is the midst of axing about 5,000 jobs. It is doubtful that there will be a lot of hiring right now (don't know this for a fact). I believe that by the end of the summer these cuts should be finalized and everyone will know how to move forward. Keep an eye on the news. Good luck.

I doubt the the AF would be having a board if there was no slots available. How many slots I have no idea. The board should be very compative so your husband should still be looking at the Navy. There will always be a need to recruit new folks for the military even with a drawdown.

The AF will always need nurses as we have turnover when the baby nurses who have only served in the military start to think the grass is greener on the other side. I see several women get out, because they want to start families and have more control over their work schedule. About the time they hit 03 they consider getting out and that is when we need all those eager new applicants to come in and fill their spots.
Thanks guys. The hubby and I are praying I get it. I still really want to come in, not just because of the benefits (the likes of which I will never see in the civilian world), but because I want to feel like I have a position that actually matters. Lately the civilian world has just been leaving me feeling a little more than worthless and I want to be part of something better.
