I just found out that I am going to Landsthul, Germany in June. If anyone has been stationed here please share some insight on the country, places to stay, or anything else that might be of importance. Thanks.

You will have the time of your life. The best 2+ yrs of my life were spent thar. I lived 30 mins from Landstuhl, but in the same region; individual bases are all centrally located around Kaiserslautern. Get out and travel when you can. Take flights on http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/ (the best deal in Europa).

I wish I were you...:lol2: :bowingpur

Do you mind if I PM you with some questions?

Not at all....

I have about a year left in nursing school and I have been considering joining the Navy but I'm afraid that I won't have the opportunity to work in my preferred specialty which is the NICU. I'm curious about your experience as a NICU Nurse in the AF. Were you a NICU nurse before going into the AF and how is it being a NICU nurse in the AF?

Landstuhl - GREAT Assignment! The Germans are very receptive, most speak english. You can take a college class to learn or they offer a recreational class to learn German or you can just wing it.

The Food is fantastic, although not nec. low Kcal. :-)

I never had a warm beer.

Anytime you get a 3 day weekend - go, go, go. Take full advantage of being in Europe. There is so much to see and do it is impossible to do it all - but try.

Live off base to enjoy the country more.

Don't get rid of anything just cause you are going to Europe. A big car is ok but small is better.

American appliances are ok, you can use a whatchama call it box, transformer? If it is an appliance with a clock the clock loses time. If it has a motor sometimes the motors may burn out faster b/c of the conversion of electricity. But it is all trivial.

What else....??

Working mixed branches is sometimes a challenge but nothing to be concerned about.

Most of all, Have Fun!

I am posting from Germany right now. I love it here, I live here with my AD husband. Embrace and take advantage of being able to experience and live in another culture. Most assignments here are 3 years and both times we were here time went fast!
