  1. Are there any school nurses that are PNP's? If so, do you get paid more than a school nurse that just has a BSN?
  2. knwgolf, Maybe if you live in another state, the interview will be over the phone. I would ask Beth about that if I were you. The interviewer was basically telling you about the program, letting you know how intense it is and finding out if you have a plan to succeed. They will suggest not working, ask you about your financial plan, and support system. The math test is nothing you should have to study for. It was basic high school math: algebra, geometry, etc. If you don't do well on a particular section they make you do remedial studying and retest on that portion. Throughout the program, you will have math tests to pass each semester. Nursing calculations (don't worry about that now; they will teach you how to do it). If you don't pass after 2 tries, you get kicked out of the program. If you don't make at least 75% on your major nursing exams, you will get kicked out of the program. It's not a hard program, just study and learn how to priorize. I worked during the program and still graduated with honors! Good luck with everything.
  3. AF nurse only have 4 NICU assignments: Lackland, TX; Langley, VA; Landstuhl, Germany; and Japan.
  4. Congrats, that's awesome!!!
  5. I just want to know if you have to complete SOS by correspondence before you are allowed to attend in- residence?
  6. How do you find out about the "Call For Canidates"? Where does this information come from?
  7. JPETERS84, Yes, I have worked as a civilian RN in the NICU for over a year now.
  8. Do you mind if I PM you with some questions?
  9. Not unless they have changed their policy within the last year. She joined our unit last Feb (2008) without a BSN.
  10. I just found out that I am going to Landsthul, Germany in June. If anyone has been stationed here please share some insight on the country, places to stay, or anything else that might be of importance. Thanks.
  11. If you are working as a RN although you do not have your BSN you can join the Air National Guard. We have a nurse in our unit that's a 2Lt (have been in the unit for a year now getting ready to go to COT) working as a crititcal care nurse and her civilian job is ob nurse. She is in school working toward her BSN. If I was you, I would go ANG just to get in; continue on the complete your BSN and apply for active duty once you are done.
  12. They strongly advice you against working while in the program, but a lot of people had to work and continued to work. They did just fine in the program. If you can manage it all, know how to prioritize then you shouldn't have any problems. We even had a girl that had a baby mid way through the program and she came back to school as soon as she delivered.
  13. Yes, I had an interview. It wasn't anything to stress out or worry about. If you have all your pre reqs completed and a good gpa, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be accepted. On your interview day, you will also have to take a math test.
  14. I just started working at Children's Hospital in the NICU as a RN and I am also in the Air National Guard as a Critical Care Nurse (with the ICU identifier E). My plan is to work for a while to gain experience as a nurse then come back on active duty. I really want to be a NICU nurse in the Air Force! What are my chances that I will get that choice or will they force me into adult ICU or some other type of nursing with that E identifier? Also, does that increase my chances of deployment? My other question is should I be vent trained first before I come in? Does Air Force NICU nurses work a lot with infants on vents and ECMO?
