PNP as a school nurse?
Are there any school nurses that are PNP's? If so, do you get paid more than a school nurse that just has a BSN?

Nebraska Methodist College Accelerated Program
knwgolf, Maybe if you live in another state, the interview will be over the phone. I would ask Beth about that if I were you. The interviewer was basically telling you about the program, letting you know how intense it is and finding out if you have a plan to succeed. They will suggest not working, ask you about your financial plan, and support system. The math test is nothing you should have to study for. It was basic high school math: algebra, geometry, etc. If you don't do well on a particular section they make you do remedial studying and retest on that portion. Throughout the program, you will have math tests to pass each semester. Nursing calculations (don't worry about that now; they will teach you how to do it). If you don't pass after 2 tries, you get kicked out of the program. If you don't make at least 75% on your major nursing exams, you will get kicked out of the program. It's not a hard program, just study and learn how to priorize. I worked during the program and still graduated with honors! Good luck with everything.

Air Force Nursing
If you are working as a RN although you do not have your BSN you can join the Air National Guard. We have a nurse in our unit that's a 2Lt (have been in the unit for a year now getting ready to go to COT) working as a crititcal care nurse and her civilian job is ob nurse. She is in school working toward her BSN. If I was you, I would go ANG just to get in; continue on the complete your BSN and apply for active duty once you are done.

Nebraska Methodist College Accelerated Program
They strongly advice you against working while in the program, but a lot of people had to work and continued to work. They did just fine in the program. If you can manage it all, know how to prioritize then you shouldn't have any problems. We even had a girl that had a baby mid way through the program and she came back to school as soon as she delivered.

Air Force NICU/Critical Care Nurses,
I just started working at Children's Hospital in the NICU as a RN and I am also in the Air National Guard as a Critical Care Nurse (with the ICU identifier E). My plan is to work for a while to gain experience as a nurse then come back on active duty. I really want to be a NICU nurse in the Air Force! What are my chances that I will get that choice or will they force me into adult ICU or some other type of nursing with that E identifier? Also, does that increase my chances of deployment? My other question is should I be vent trained first before I come in? Does Air Force NICU nurses work a lot with infants on vents and ECMO?

Question to any USAF Nurse,
Thank you so much for all of the wonderful advice!!! Good luck to you also in your CRNA school.

Question to any USAF Nurse,
My ultimate goal concerning the Air Force is to become accepted into an AFIT slot so I can become a nurse practitioner.
-
Question to any USAF Nurse,
It is a step down unit. But the nurses sometimes float to ICU.

Question to any USAF Nurse,
I have accepted a position as a critical care nurse working on a PINS unit (Post Intensive Care). My plan is to work for a year, then come back in the Air Force as an active duty nurse. But my question is what type of job will I be offered? Will they make me do med/surg first or could I go right into critical care/ICU?
-
Any PINS (Post Intensive Care Unit) nurses,
Yes, it's a step down unit - the patients are stable enough to leave ICU but they are still unstable for med surg.
-
Any PINS (Post Intensive Care Unit) nurses,
I am a new grad and was just hired to work in PINS. I was just wondering what is a typical day like for you? What type of patients do you get? What is the nurse to patient ration? Do you like the unit? Any advice to a new nurse? Thanks

Finally Passed - 3rd Try, (Tips included)
i just want to thank everyone for all the support and help i've received since becoming a part of this forum. for those of you who are multiple test takers or first time takers, please do not give up. you can pass this test! i would recommend hurst review to everyone. it is awesome and if you study like marlene says to & know the content; there is no way anyone can fail this test. in addition to hurst, i did the first tip of suzanne's plan; i also answered questions from the saunder's cd - only the content area (100 questions from each section). i only had 76 questions. but the most important thing i did was continue to pray and have faith that i would pass this test. two days later, checked quick results only to find out that i passed!!! :monkeydance: the night before the test, i would also suggest not studying. you should use this day to relax. if you are the type of person that must study, then don't try to study anything heavy; maybe look over lab values or something. first time: 211 questions - kaplan second time: 110 questions - kaplan, plus ncsbn on-line third and final time: 76 questions - hurst review, saunders

Questions on the Air Force NTP,
I was wondering what is the NTP like exactly? Is it just brushing up on skills? Classroom work and clinical? Doing homework and having so many tests before completion? Does anyone fail out/not pass it? Do you have free time on the weekends to go back home and spend with family? How many hours a day are putting in? Are you in uniform during this course? What are you studying? (med surg/ etc) Do you spend so much time going over everything? Thanks for any input on the AF NTP.
