Hey guys, been a bit since I was on here. I'm about done with COT, then off to NTP at Tampa, FL. I'll be stationed at SAMMC afterwards. I thought I'd start a new thread for people to ask questions specifically about COT/NTP because in the last year things have been changing in COT. They have been trying to make it as similar to BOT as possible, which means it's a bit harder and stricter. Definitely no maids for our rooms, no civilian clothes basically ever, and of course lots of yelling and demerits. So fire away, I'll do my best to answer questions, along with the others who know what COT is like right now!!
I have been reading a lot of your posts and thank you for all of the information! I have a specific question about G.P.A for NTP. Were you asked to submit all college transcripts (cumulative) or is the GPA specific to your BSN program? I am asking because I am graduating with my ADN in December and my G.P.A is not above a 3.5. Also I have previous credits (from 10 years ago) at a different college and my G.P.A was terrible. I have the opportunity to attend the school i did 10 years ago and get my BSN while fixing my GPA but it will take longer. Any input on this would be very helpful! Thank you!
They definitely look at all post-high school transcripts. I had community college credits that had nothing to do with Nursing and they still wanted to see them. I never really investigated very deeply when I was applying, but the GPA on my app was different from what it said on my transcripts. They definitely use their own calculation for it, and it's not just a simple weighted average of all credits you've ever taken. I do know they re-evaluate your records on a 10 point scale. My school said a 91 was a B+ but the Air Force said it was an A. A recruiter would know for sure.
Also, I believe fully qualified (nurses with >1 year of exp) are exempt from the GPA minimum. It's definitely still taken into consideration when you're competing against other candidates though.
Hi Camo-Angel
I am planning on applying for the NTP. I graduate in May 2018.
I have been trying to get more information about the application process and what the program is actually like. My husband is active duty, so I am somewhat familiar with the the Air Force. I am more curious about the actual nursing aspects.
Also, any advice on how to be an outstanding candidate? I have a 3.8 GPA, a previous bachelor's degree in Management, and I volunteer for the Red Cross on base. I am also planning to start volunteering at the VA hospital.
