Do any of you awesome school nurses know of ways to get help paying for replacement AED pads and batteries?? Our school was gifted 2 AED's several years before I started here and we have since purchased 2 more to be able to send with sports teams. I have tried to budget for them in the past but that usually means I'm skipping or skimping on other necessary items.  All 4 are going to have expired pads in the near future. Are there any programs or grants that help with these costs??

Several years ago, our nurse leader (successfully) argued that the AED supplies should come from the general operating budget for the district because they are available for use for emergency situations when school is not in session; For example, our town's rec league sports and community events that are not district affiliated (craft fairs, PTO events, etc.). There was also (like you) a request for more units so that traveling sports teams So why should the nursing department, who has nothing to do with these events, be paying for the supplies that could be used (and are actually more likely to be used) during these events? The nurse leader and building nurses are still responsible for the month to month maintenance and ordering, but the super expensive pads and batteries and any service comes from the general operating budget. Might be worth an investigation!
