Advice Welcome From Around The Country

Published

Alright. . . in a nutshell

I am a recent new grad from an ADN program. I have a BA, in psychology (not interested much in psych RN, crazy ppl don't do it for me). I have my license, I have ACLS, I worked for four months in busy county hospital in a step-down ICU until I realized that I didn't want to do that anymore (I hate med-surge, hard unit + bad preceptor = this sucks) and now I have come to a conclusion. I want to explore ER/ED, or prison nursing. I have been on one prison interview for the state of California, very interesting (should hear back in two weeks), and that's it. I am open to ANY kind of nursing, but will RELOCATE, and I mean ANYWHERE in the country for ED (need a new grad training program), or correctional nursing gigs. There is nada in the bay area. I was even considering working as an EMT (i am certed) close to home as the 12.50 an hour doesn't pay for rent on its own in most places around here. I could go back to school. . .but I got to wait for next round of apps. I feel very fortunate for many things in my life, I have many options, including time, but I would like to hear if anyone, anywhere in the US that has ANY thoughts on where to check next. It's a big country, I am wondering where to start. Websights, thoughts, tirades welcome.

Peace out

Protoadn- can I ask you how on earth you got the prison interview? I would also love to do prison nursing, am also in CA, but after I did the online application I haven't heard anything. I am getting pretty used to hearing nothing. I wish you good luck. I would say try the state hospitals too but you already said "crazy people" don't do it for you.
