Hi,
I am new to this site. I am attending Delgado, and nursing is my second career. I took the pax once, and did not pass. I am anxious to get into nursing school, and very nervous abut taking the pax exam again. I know if I do not pass this last time, i will not be able to attend Charity. Does anyone have any advice of what I should be doing to prepare for this exam?

I just bought the review book they sell at the bookstore. I really didn't prepare as much as I could or should have but I passed. It had a lot of stuff that I did in school quite a while ago, but the review book did help some.
Nursing is my second career also. I hope to get in for January!!
good luck

I took the pax and got a 126.
I bought the review book and some math review books from Barnes and Nobles. I went over the practice exams and reviewed everything in the pax review book. Then I went over the math review to freshen up on things I had forgotten. Its amazing what you can forget how to do without the help of a calculator.
I think if you spend some serious time studying and reviewing you will be fine.

I'll be taking the Pax in early March. I've bought the review book and I'm studying it as much as possible. I'm extremely nervous about taking it since Math is a subject I've never been strong in, but all I can do is try and hope for the best. I wish you luck!
The math that is covered it really basic high school math. Freshen up on how to multiply/divide fractions, decimals and regular numbers. Know how to convert fractions to decimals and how to find the lowest common denomenator for fractions. Review a little geometry and algebra. But I found a majority of the math quetions to be be on decimals and fractions. There are some great basic math review books at your local bookstore.

Hi Cindy,
I attend Delgado and I also took the PAX exam and did not pass it. When did you take it? I took mine in Jan. I will be taking it the second time around July or August. I want to allow plenty of time to study. I thought i studied a good bit for the first time but apparently i didn't. I found the test was difficult in the science section! they had a lot of chemistry and physics and charity does not even require those two classes for a pre-requisite!! how in the world are you suppose to study for that? The math was okay. I just purchased a book from Amazon.com, it's called pre-nursing arithmatic. I was going to study that along with the review book. I may also look into books on basic chemistry and physics. On a second note, i heard someone mentioning prep classes for these types of test. That's all i know though. I looked on the internet and i didn't find such a thing. If i find out more i will let you know. :)

I am also trying to take the Pax this summer. I had the same problem on the exam with the physics and chemisry section. I was looking for a class that would be a review to study for. I have not been able to find it. I am really worried about passing, because this is my last chance. You seem to be having the same problem as me. Please keep in touch. Maybe we can help each other study for this exam. Let me know if you would like to meet at Delgado and go to the library and study.

Did you have any trouble in the math as well? I did. I just bought a couple of books from amazon that is self taught books on physics and chemistry. I heard about a prep class you can take but i need to find out more about it. When i do i will defintely let you know. I will keep in touch. Are you starting to study now? i haven't becasue i'm a little busy with my classes now but i will be getting on it soon. If you want we can exchange personal email address so we can keep each other posted and that way we could meet up at the library when we need to. We can do this! We will become nurses! :)

Okay, is it just me or was the vocabulary portion INSANE?
The math was pretty easy, the science was a bit challenging, but I'm really concerned about the vocab. It just doesn't seem intuitive and they seem to pick the strangest words EVER for the test.
